Last week: St. Pius 20, Crystal City 0; St. Vincent 45, Grandview 20
Last year: St. Pius 21, St. Vincent 0
Notes: St. Vincent won the previous seven meetings before losing last year. St. Pius has posted back-to-back shutouts. Warrior offense is balanced: Antoine Bisch and Carlos Bisch lead ground attack with almost 500 yards rushing combined and quarterback Ryan Jercinovic has passed for nearly 500 yards. Chris Kline leads St. Vincent with 380 yards rushing and Chad Lane has thrown for about 500. St. Pius was preseason choice by coaches to win MAFC Blue Division.
St. Vincent coach Keith Winkler: "They're a pretty good ballclub and they're real balanced. I think we have to play good, disciplined football. They're going to throw a lot of formations at us... We're pretty balance also. It should be a pretty good matchup."Chaffee (0-4) at Scott City (1-3)
Last week: Portageville 46, Chaffee 6; Valle 50, Scott City 13
Last year: Scott City 23, Chaffee 21
Notes: Chaffee's last win in rivalry was a 14-6 victory in 1985, the last of four straight wins over the Rams. Chaffee head coach Allan Horrell was a senior player on the 1985 Red Devil team. Scott City has won the last 16 meetings, including nine by shutout. Chaffee had the opportunity to win last year's game with short field goal on the final play but chance to end streak died with a bad snap.
Chaffee coach Allan Horrell: "It's been a long time. We've been knocking on the door the last few years. We'd like to be the team that maybe steps on through. In years past we've struggled sometimes but this is always a dogfight... We're kind of opposites. Coach Burkman likes to grind it on the ground and we like to throw as much as can. It should be an interesting matchup."
Scott City coach Jason Burkman: "I know Chaffee never quits and is very effective with its passing game, and that's something we've definitely had trouble with this year. They're not the most athletic team but they have a lot of heart. We have to be on our toes and be ready to play... The fact Chaffee hasn't beaten Scott City in 17 years and with the rivalry, the kids are naturally up for this game."SATURDAY'S GAME
Windsor (1-3) at Perryville (0-4)
Last week: Park Hills Central 23, Windsor 15; Farmington 8, Perryville 7
Last year: Perryville 42, Windsor 19
Notes: Perryville scored its first points of the season last week, but have been outscored 80-7 on the season. The Pirates have only won three of their last 24 games, but two of those wins have been over Windsor. The Pirates have won the last four meetings. Windsor junior Blane Boss is averaging 9.5 yards a carry and leads Owls with 295 yards rushing. Junior quarterback Zach Weiss has 279 yards and over seven yards a carry. Owls are Perryville's homecoming guest.
Perryville coach Lance Bell: "For being 1-3 they have some weapons. Blane Boss, he's probably going to be the best running back we face outside of (Monroe) Hicks. He has very good speed and is elusive. They run a lot of option and run it very well... They're a team like we are now. Hopefully we can get up quick and break their spirit. If we let them hang around they could cause us some problems."
