New proposal is a symbol of irony

To the editor:

The new proposal by the MSHSAA is ludicrous.

I realize students in private schools achieve higher in most all areas, but I thought you reward these accomplishments, not punish them. The purpose of most private schools is to help students achieve higher morals, academics and athletic skills. I guess the public school system can't compete, so they are trying to even the playing field in a very unfair way.

The parents of private-school students pay every cent of public school education as well as the tuition for their children to attend private schools.

The financial burden is placed on these parents, yet they willingly pay their taxes and tuition. This proposal is trying to force them to let their children be at the complete mercy of the public schools' decision to govern their activities. This is not at all a democratic proposal, nor a fair proposal. The state wants to be separate from religion, yet they want to govern most of these religious private schools. This sounds like the state wants to have their cake and eat it too.
