ND stops Poplar Bluff 3-0

On a night to honor the 10 seniors on the Notre Dame boys soccer team, it was junior Jack Wedemeier who stole the spotlight in the Bulldogs' 3-0 victory against visiting Poplar Bluff on Tuesday.

Wedemeier scored twice for Notre Dame, which ended its regular season at 16-3-3.

"It was a great game," Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn said. "We hadn't been outplayed in a game until Central last week. We had no energy that game, and to come back and play with a lot of energy tonight was important going into districts."

Wedemeier put the Bulldogs on the board with a goal from about 24 yards out in the first half on a pass from Jason Delgado.

Delgado then scored his 12th goal of the season midway through the first half before Wedemeier delivered his 11th goal on a line-drive shot in the second half. Tyler LeGrand had both assists.

Notre Dame goalie Nathan Kolda tied the 10-year-old single-season school record with his 16th shutout. He made four saves, including a stop on a Poplar Bluff breakaway early in the first half.

Through 22 games this season, Notre Dame has allowed only nine goals.

"[Kolda] made a huge save for us tonight," Wittenborn said. "Our defense has definitely been strong this season."

The Bulldogs' junior varsity squad won 4-0.

Lafayette 1, Central 0

Central fell to 19-4-1 with its second straight loss.

Jordan Young made eight saves in goal for Central.

The Tigers' JV won 1-0.
