Reese Van Pelt and Ayne’ Held both finished with three hits, while Carlyanne Cossou, Paizleigh Graham and Jordynn Blair all recorded two hits in the win. In total, Chaffee notched 15 hits in the game, driving in 13 runs with Van Pelt and Graham driving in four each and Blair driving in another three.

Cossou got the victory on the mound for Chaffee, allowing three hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out eight Kelly batters in the victory. Her second of the season, the Chaffee pitching staff has allowed just five hits and one run through three full games this season.

Kelly’s lone score came from Blaire Riley in the fourth inning, hitting a home run to grab one of the Hawks’ three hits. Kayleigh Holman and Miley Estes both hit once in the game, grabbing the second and third hits while Gwendolyn Essner earned the only walk of the game for the hosts.

Chaffee next hosts Notre Dame (1-1) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Kelly begins Notre Dame Tournament play on Thursday at Notre Dame Regional High School.

__Perryville 6, Cape Central 3__

In a battle of two teams searching for their first win of the season, the Perryville Pirates (1-5) came out on top in a 6-3 victory against Cape Central (0-4).

In a balanced hitting affair for Perryville, Kylee Stortz and Jenna Brewer both finished with two hits, while Caroline Gremaud and Marley Seabaugh both had 2-RBI nights on just one hit each.

Starting pitcher Rhylee Wengert pitched the full game for Perryville, going 5.0 innings with seven hits, three walks and two earned runs to grab the victory in a shortened outing.

Michaela Mason’s two hits and one RBI led the way for the Tiger offense, with Tristen Stovall grabbing the only other RBI of the game for Cape Central on a first-inning single.

Perryville next plays at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at Jackson (4-1), while Cape Central begins Notre Dame Tournament play on Thursday at Notre Dame Regional High School.

__St. Pius X 9, Saxony Lutheran 4__

Saxony Lutheran softball (1-1) suffered its first loss of the season at the Crusaders gave up eight runs in the final three frames, losing 9-4 to the visiting St. Pius X Lancers.

Offensively, Saxony Lutheran put together a strong game with five hits between Myra Roth, Makayla Braeuner, Maddie Preusser, Lilly Roth and Aubrey Froggatt. Lilly Roth’s hit went for a 2-RBI double, with Preusser notching the third and final RBI.

Earning the loss on the mound, Lilly Roth earned just two runs in the game after allowing nine hits and a hit-by-pitch, with four Crusader errors coming back to bite them defensively.

Saxony Lutheran next travels to play at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at Fredericktown (3-0).

__East Carter 12, Perryville 2__

East Carter (5-0) had no issue scoring against Perryville (1-5) on Tuesday, winning 12-2 and scoring all 12 runs in the first four innings.

For the Pirates, Kylee Stortz and Rhylee Wengert both put in two hits, Wengert driving in a run to lead a Perryville offense that finished with seven hits and two runs in the loss.

Mykencie Hutchinson’s three hits commanded the East Prairie offense, driving in two runs while pitcher Karla Ochoa hit twice and drove in three runs. Anna Crowley finished with two hits and two RBIs of her own to continue a strong offensive night for the Redbirds.

Perryville next plays at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at Jackson (4-1).

__GIRLS GOLF: Jackson finishes fourth among highly-talented Viz-A-Tational field__

Jackson traveled to Sunset Country Club in St. Louis to compete in the 2023 Viz-A-Tational on Tuesday, finishing fourth in a field with ample talent.

Finishing with a team score of 356, Jackson shot 68 over par and finished a stroke ahead of Francis Howell. In front of Jackson, the hosting Visitation Academy took first with a 26-over-par score of 314, followed by St. Joseph (344) and Tolton Catholic (348).

Senior Alana Gilbert finished third at a 7-over-par 79, followed by sophomore Julia Schlitt in eighth with 83 strokes on the par-72 course.

Jackson next competes in a head-to-head matchup against Notre Dame at 12 p.m. on Thursday.

__VOLLEYBALL: Scott City downs Puxico in season-opening sweep__

Scott City began its 2023 volleyball campaign with a sound 3-0 victory at home against Puxico (0-2), taking the Indians down in straight sets (25-16, 30-28, 25-12) to improve to 1-0.

Makenna Gentry’s 12 kills showed off as the centerpiece for the Rams, followed by Mackenzie Lawless with seven kills of her own, with Ramsey Spinks chipping in 31 assists to set the table for a lopsided Scott City win.

The Rams brought out the shovels for the game as Lawless’ 17 digs led the way while Gracie Karrenbrock (13), Layla Estes (10) and Ramsey Spinks (9) all put up eye-popping numbers defensively to keep the offense flowing.

Scott City next plays at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Fredericktown.

__Perryville 3, Woodland 0__

Perryville volleyball (2-0) earned a spot in the Woodland Invitational Tournament on Tuesday with a 3-0 victory against the hosting Woodland Cardinals (2-1), winning in straight sets (25-9, 25-22, 25-18).

McKenna McClure’s 18 kills and eight blocks established a menacing presence at the net front, with Emma Blechle putting in another nine kills to keep Woodland on edge.

Allyson Burns and Elise Lauck finished with 16 and 15 assists respectively, setting the offense up for an explosive night, while Ana Moll’s 12 digs kept the Pirates pushing stout in the backcourt.

The Pirates await the winner of a Thursday night semifinal game before taking part in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Woodland High School.

__TENNIS: Saxony Lutheran remains unbeaten with tight win at Arcadia Valley__

Saxony Lutheran girls tennis (3-0) kept its perfect season intact with a 6-3 victory over Arcadia Valley (0-2) on the road.

Maggie Hillin, Evie Caruso, Addie Thomason and Katya Rust took singles wins for the Crusaders while securing the match win on the doubles courts with wins from the pairings of Hillin/Abby Haley and Tali Renshaw/Sydney Ernst.

The Crusaders next host Charleston (0-2) beginning at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

__BASEBALL: Bell City rights ship, scoring big in explosive win__

Bell City (2-1) got back on the right track with a 10-4 victory against Puxico on Tuesday, scoring six runs in the first inning to cruise to a big win.

Kale Richardson led the way for the Cubs with three hits, with Baylor Eftink and Easton Newell both putting in two hits to follow Richardson. Linc Scherer’s one hit went for two RBIs, tying Richardson for the team lead.

Jacob Asher earned the win on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings on four hits, one walk and six strikeouts without earning a run. Newell came in for Asher in the fifth, followed by an appearance from Logan Stubenrauch to close, both going without an earned run.

Bell City next hosts Cooter (1-3) at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
