Monday's warm weather brought a fun slate of baseball around the area, with one of the top area games coming in a showdown between small powers.
Oran baseball's early scores were enough to hold off a late rally from Meadow Heights in a tight-knit battle on the Eagles' turf.
__BB: Oran 5, Meadow Heights 4__
Oran baseball (6-4) emerged from a nearly two-week slumber to knock off the talented Meadow Heights Panthers (9-5) in a firefight at home on Monday.
With their backs against the wall, Kole Burger and Parker Bryant each tossed strong innings to keep the Panthers out of the win column.
Starting pitcher Gabe Dirnberger did enough to earn the win, striking out seven while allowing just one earned run.
Burger finished with multiple hits, joining Brenden Campbell, Rylan Mills and Carson Kern in that club.
Braeden Hays made an appearance there for Meadow Heights as well, doubling once while Ransom Grindstaff drove in two runs on one hit.
__SB: Oak Ridge 15, Grandview 0__
Oak Ridge softball (7-4) had a field day with Grandview on Monday, scoring at will through the first three innings to take an abbreviated dub at home.
With the mercy rule walk-off looming, Tristen Berry came around on a wild pitch to score the game-ending run to put a bow on the Bluejays' huge win.
Led by the three hits of Kinsley Bogenpohl, with both Madalyn Schemel and Berry providing doubles, the offense cruised with nine hits and eight walks.
Bogenpohl pitched a perfect, albeit short, game with 3.0 innings pitched, never surrendering a hit, walk, hit-by-pitch or, of course, a run, striking out 10(!) batters over nine outs.
__BB: Scott City 7, Perryville 5__
Perryville (6-5) grabbed an early lead and held on tight, leading as late as the sixth inning against Scott City (20-1) but succumbing in a 7-5 final.
In the Pirates' den, the Rams were in desperate need of a rally and scored a whopping six runs in the sixth to go from down a pair to in the driver's seat by four.
Kobe Watson singled twice to lead the Rams, who never got an extra-base hit but walked four times while drawing hit batters thrice.
Brayden Mashek didn't earn the win, but his early 4.0 innings with just one run earned made sure the Rams stayed within reach while Jackson Gloth came in late to grab the victory.
How about Troy O'Keefe of the Pirates, who had a 4-for-4 night at the dish with four singles?
Adam Green and Tyler Jannin joined him in the multi-hit club with two each, but Green's two doubles worked to equal O'Keefe in base production.
__SB: Leopold 23, Charleston 8__
Leopold (3-5) had no issue racking up the runs on Charleston on Monday, putting up an 11-spot in the third en route to a 15-run win at home.
Ava Jansen led the Wildcats with four hits in the win, one for a double, with Lillian Cook hitting three times behind her.
Malia VanderMierden, Piper Lincoln, Brenna Beussink, Ashlynn Massa, Ashtyn Van de Ven and Erin Schreckenberg each had two hits as the basepaths were like a conga line for Leopold.
Lincoln threw a scoreless first two for the Wildcats before giving way to some bullpen arms to round out the win.
__BB: Cape Central 9, Notre Dame 2__
Cape Central (5-15) made it look easy against Notre Dame (9-7), cracking down on a crosstown rival at Capaha Field for a huge conference dub.
Jackson Witvoet led Central with two hits and three RBIs, one going for a triple, while Jathan Spain's double helped him to drive in another two.
Spain pitched 5.2 on the mound, allowing three hits and four walks but only one earned run as he struck out six Bulldogs in the victory.
Jack Evans, Brett Dohogne and Chase Lawson each got a single, but nothing more for the Notre Dame offense as it could never figure out the Tigers' pitching.
__SB: Woodland 15, Puxico 0__
Woodland (9-4) kept the ball rolling in the opening round of the Stoddard County Athletic Association tournament, blowing out Puxico in a dominant showing.
Addyson Massa hit thrice in the win, all for singles, while Mallary Barks' double and two walks helped her drive in two Cardinals.
Rhodie Long threw two of three scoreless innings for Woodland, allowing a hit while striking out two while Barks closed the third out.
Miley Harmon got the only knock of the game for Puxico, going for a triple but never coming around to score. Emily Carr got the lone walk of the game for Puxico.
__BB: Valle Catholic 10, Kelly 0__
As they often have this year, the Valle Catholic Warriors picked apart a southeastern opponent, this time throttling Kelly (7-8) on the road.
Michael Dollins had two hits for the Hawks, a team-high, singling twice while Kaleb Yount got Kelly's third and final hit.
Yount also drew the Hawks' only walk as they finished the game reaching base just four times in six innings.
__BB: Jackson 12, Marion 10__
Sometimes, the best defense is a good offense. Something like that, anyways. Jackson (14-5) made it a winning streak with a tight victory over Marion on Monday.
Despite scoring 12 as the offensive rekindled, it wasn't easy as the Indians' three errors came back to bite them down the stretch.
The Indians trailed 7-2 entering the third inning, but they outscored the Wildcats 10-3 from that point onward to finish off a mighty comeback.
Cole Koeberl relieved John-Paul Sauer and threw 3.0 innings of one-hit ball, allowing just one earned run to get a big win on the road.
Garrison Brown and Jaiden Glency each hit homers, with Brown's one hit and two walks combining for four runs driven in.
Waylon Hale, Cooper Rhodes, Caleb Nenninger and Drew Parsons joined Glency in the multi-hit club as Jackson nearly doubled up Marion in hitting, 15-8.
__BB: Chaffee 14, Charleston 0__
Chaffee (15-2) got back to winning ways with a throttling of Charleston at home on Monday afternoon, dominating both sides of the ball.
Levi McKinnie led the Devil offense, hitting twice and once for a solo homer.
Kade Atkins, Leyton Hanback and Kolbey Estes each had two hits as well.
Hanback threw the first three, going scoreless with one hit and eight strikeouts before Tyson Arnzen closed the game with another scoreless two and five strikeouts.
__BB: East Prairie 12, Delta 0__
Delta's (1-14) road hasn't gotten any easier, and on Monday it resulted in a blowout loss to East Prairie on home turf.
Coleton Deckard, Silas Amelung and Timothy Rhodes Jr. each notched singles for the Bobcats, but none ever resulted in a score in the loss.
Hunter Newton commanded the Eagle offense with two hits for three runs driven in, one for a double, while Ty Wallace, Owen Knight and Rayne Jernigan each had multiple hits.
Jack Pearson threw all five innings for East Prarie, allowing three hits and two walks but never a run, striking out eight Bobcats.
__BB: Bell City 9, Advance 1__
Bell City (8-3) opened its conference tourney with a vicious win over Advance (2-10) to extend its win streak to four.
The Cubs didn't have a single extra-base hit or a player reach multi-hit territory, but an all-around team effort still put Advance away comfortably.
Easton Newell's one hit drove in two Cubs, but Landon Stewart drove in two without even getting a hit on Monday – talk about reliability.
Baylor Eftink threw 6.0 innings of one-run ball, striking out seven and only surrendering three hits in the big win.
Jameson Hamlin, Braxton Kennedy and Kadon Rodgers each hit singles for Advance, and five different Hornets drew walks, but they only put one run across in a rough SCAA tourney loss.
__BB: Bloomfield 8, Woodland 7__
It took extras, but Woodland (3-8) couldn't put away Bloomfield in its SCAA Tournament opener on Monday afternoon.
With the bases juiced, Logan McWilliams drew the walk-off walk to score Ayden Hutchison and advance closer to a conference title.
Seth Abernathy singled three times to lead Woodland, with Colton Jordan doubling once to drive in three on the game, but it wasn't enough to knock off Bloomfield.
Earning the win, Bloomfield's Kayden Craft threw 1.2 scoreless to close the game, allowing one hit while striking out four Cardinals.
Hutchison joined Caleb Upchurch and Benjamin Stevens as Wildcats with two hits in the victory, while Cole Hartlein's one hit, a second-inning homer, drove in three runs.
