Southeast Missourian schools opened the 2024 spring baseball season loudly, taking a handful of big wins and tough losses.

Some teams quickly rose to the top, taking some important season-opening wins against talented teams, while others slumped over the weekend and potentially painted a poorer picture after the first few games.

Jackson and Chaffee got perhaps the loudest starts of the season, with the latter going 3-0 in the Troy Baseball Classic while Chaffee took two strong wins against Shawnee and Crystal City.

Jaiden Glency had a spectacular game in his own right for Jackson against Hannibal on Saturday night, finishing 4-for-5 at the dish with a 4-RBI night to lead the Indians to a rowdy win up north against the Pirates.

Scott City is undefeated to start the new year as well, including a ridiculous 19-3 win against those same Crystal City Hornets in which the Rams touched them up for 12 hits, including a 3-hit day from junior infielder Kobe Watson.

Notre Dame got an interesting split, destroying St. Mary's South Side but later dropping a second game against Farmington in which the Bulldogs out-hit the Knights yet finished with just a single run to slip to 1-1 in 2024.

Maybe an even more interesting split is Advance's opening weekend, getting both a blowout win and a blowout loss against Holcomb to start the season.

Cape Central couldn't ride its season-opening momentum from a big win against Sikeston, succumbing heavily in a 12-1 loss to De Smet Jesuit at home.

Delta showed signs of life in both games, but the Bobcats are starting the season 0-2 after a couple tough defeats to Bloomfield and Caruthersville on Saturday.

Here are the box scores from the opening weekend in Southeast Missouri.
