Saxony Lutheran senior Lauren Lueders is one of 10 candidates for Miss Show-Me Basketball, an award presented by the Missouri Coaches Association.
Jackson's Andrea Siemer is the lone girls recipient from Southeast Missouri in the past 21 years of the award. Siemer won the award in 1992.
Lueders averaged 9.2 points per game for the Crusaders this past season, finishing out her four years with Saxony Lutheran's boys program. Lueders signed with Vanderbilt University in the fall.
The rest of the girls candidates include Clopton's Mikal Bencomo, Billings' Sara Bos, Incarnate Word's Felicia Chester, Hillcrest's Lacee Groves, St. Joseph's Academy's Kelsey Luna, Logan-Rogersville's Brianna Mingus, St. Joseph's Academy's Mackenzie Stirmlinger, Jefferson City's Brianna Culberson and Fayette's Jessra Johnson.
Poplar Bluff senior Ben Hansbrough is one of 10 candidates for Mr. Show-Me Basketball. Hansbrough's older brother, Tyler Hansbrough, won the award last season.
Tyler Hansbrough and Scott County's Marcus Timmons are the only two players from Southeast Missouri to win the award in the past 21 years.
Other candidates for this year's award include Harrisburg's Kyle Fisher, Mountain Grove's Brett Collins, Vashon's Bobby Hill, Kickapoo's Kyle Kirk, Belle's Drew Lansford, St. Francis Borgia's Alex Moosmann, Cameron's Drew Newhart, Van-Far's Mike Smith and Jennings' Sanijay Watts.
The winners will be announced May 7 at the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State Banquet.
Notre Dame senior Alex Ressel and Perryville senior Krista Miesner each earned academic all-state honors from the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association.
Ressel also earned second-team all-state honors from the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters earlier this spring.
Notre Dame senior Frankie Ellis recently signed with Greenville College to play soccer next season.
Ellis will join Notre Dame graduate Travis Siebert, who finished his junior season at Greenville this past season. This past season, Ellis earned first-team all-state honors from the Missouri Soccer Coaches Association.
Greenville is an NCAA Division III school and plays in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Notre Dame senior third basemen Shane Menz will play college baseball at Mineral Area College.
Menz was first-team all-district and all-region last year.
Central graduate Sean Bard, currently in his second year at Mineral Area, is hitting .301 with a team-high 16 RBIs.
Notre Dame's girls soccer team was ranked No. 7 in the initial Missouri Soccer Coaches Association top-10 poll in Class 1.
The Bulldogs are 6-2-1 this season.
St. Dominic is ranked No. 1 in Class 1, and Incarnate Word is top-ranked in Class 2.
Oran and Advance both made the top 10 in the first in-season Missouri Baseball Coaches Association state rankings.
Oran (5-1), which suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday to Class 2 Scott City, is ranked No. 7 in Class 1. Advance (1-0) is right behind the Eagles at No. 8.
The Hornets were ranked No. 5 in the preseason poll, but have played just one game so far this season after making a run into the state final four in basketball. Advance defeated Oran in the district final last season.
The B.A. Sports All-Star Extravaganza will be April 21 and 22 at the Bess Activity Center on the campus of Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
The event includes all-star games in volleyball and basketball. The volleyball match will be played April 21 with a skills event following the match.
A slam dunk contest and 3-point shooting contest will take place April 22 following the girls basketball game and the boys small schools basketball game. The large-school boys basketball game will conclude the games.
An awards banquet April 22 will feature former major league pitcher Jim Morris, the subject of the Disney movie "The Rookie."
The all-star rosters are comprised of seniors.
