CALEDONIA -- Most people expected Leopold and Meadow Heights to wage a hotly contested battle for the championship of the Class 1A, District 4 volleyball tournament at Caledonia Valley High School.

And that's exactly what happened. Top-seeded Leopold slipped past second-seeded Meadow Heights 15-13, 1-15, 16-14 Thursday night to win the title.

Leopold advances to Saturday's four-team sectional at Poplar Bluff High School. Unbeaten and defending state champion Bernie will be the heavy favorite.

In semifinal action earlier Thursday, Leopold routed fifth-seeded Oak Ridge 15-1, 15-2 and Meadow Heights rolled past third-seeded Zalma 15-3, 15-6.
