Cape Girardeau Central High's girls soccer team notched the biggest victory in the program's short history Saturday as the Lady Tigers defeated visiting Nerinx Hall of St. Louis 1-0.

"It's definitely the biggest win since we've started the program," said Central coach Tom Doyle, whose Lady Tigers are in their second season of existence. "I told the girls this one kind of sets the foundation for the rest of the season.

"They (Nerinx Hall) are ranked ninth in the St. Louis area. They had played the No. 1 team twice, losing 2-0 and in a shootout after it was 0-0 in regulation. So they're a really good team."

The Lady Tigers improved to 10-0, eight of the wins being shutouts.

Nichole Thiele scored Saturday's only goal, with an assist from Abby Harris.

Central's stout defense -- led by goalie Amy Harris and defenders Sarah Gragg, Laura Lueders, Erica McDonald and Katie Cozby -- made that lone goal stand up.

"Our defense was outstanding and Amy Harris made several key stops," Doyle said.

Central's JV also performed well during a 0-0 tie with Nerinx Hall.

The Lady Tigers' next game will be April 29 against Notre Dame.
