Barry Knight of Paducah, Ky., led a record field of 225 competitors to the finish Sunday in the 18th annual Steamboat Classic Triathlon.
Knight won in 1 hour, 15 minutes, 2 seconds. It was two seconds off his own Steamboat Triathlon record. He led runner-up John Baker of Paducah by more than a minute over the course that included a 500-yard swim at Cape Munipal Pool, a 15-mile bicycle ride and a 5-mile run through downtown Cape.
Among top-five local finishers, Gabe Austin of Cape Girardeau was second (1:39:2) and Mark Strickert of Jackson, Mo., third (1:51:38) in the men's 19-and-under division.
In the women's division, J.P. Palmer of Columbia, Mo., led all finishers in 1:33:55.
Among local women's finishers, three from Cape Girardeau fared well in the 20-25 age group. Kim Mouser was third, Tonia Neumann fourth and Andrea Eaker fifth.
