The Jackson wrestling team sent seven wrestlers to the Class 4 state tournament, and each wrestler remains in contention at the end of Thursday's action at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Missouri.
Jarrett Reisenbichler (113) and Clayton Collier (152) are the Indians' two grapplers who remain in the championship bracket.
Reisenbichler claimed a 5-2 decision over Timberland's Anthony Pisciotta. The senior will take on Rockhurst's Colin Valdiviez, who won a 9-0 major decision ocer Lee Summit West's Ryan Waits, in today's quarterfinals.
Collier defeated Francis Howell's Jack Flynn in a 3-1 decision and will face Park Hill's Canten Marriott in today's quarterfinals.
The Indians' top-seeded heavyweight, Preston Hobeck, dropped a 4-3 decision against McCluer North's Quelton Tolliver. Hobeck bounced back by beating Austin Heatherly, of Nixa, in a 3-2 decision in the first round of consolation.
Despite dropping a 6-3 decision against Park Hill South's Dylen Propes, Jackson's Carson McCord (170) made amends with a first-round consolation win, pinning Raymore-Peculiar's Jacob Paddock in 2 minutes, 39 seconds.
The Indians' Gus Guillams (106) lost a 3-2 decision to Rock Bridge's Brock Davis but recovered by defeating Francis Howell's Tryler Keith in an 8-4 decision in consolation.
Jake Byrd (126), of Jackson, dropped an 11-2 major decision against Blue Springs' Brett Heil. Byrd remains in contention after winning a 12-8 decision over Francis Howell's Tyler McGhee in consolation.
After falling to Blue Springs' Joe King in a 4-2 decision, Jackson's Micah Collier (138) bounced back by beating Francis Howell Central's Bryce Bachowski in a 7-2 decision.
In the Class 2 state tournament, Notre Dame's Noah Huff (120) was defeated by Mikey Crocker, of St. James, in a 10-4 decision. Huff remains in contention after pinning Archbishop O'Hara's Devon Maschger in 3:22.
Central's T.J. Marquis (195) was pinned in 49 seconds by Neosho's Christopher Hailey in the opening round of the Class 3 state tournament. Marquis was eliminated from the tournament after being pinned by Platte County's Adam Muehlebach in 3:50.
