The Jackson Indians girls basketball team defeated the South Iron Panthers 82-47 on Monday at Jackson High School. Holland Guilliams and Camryn Alsdorf led the way for the Indians with 24 points apiece, followed by Addison Criddle who finished with 15. The Indians knocked down 16 three-point shots with the trio combining for 13 of those.

Guilliams said while her scoring 24 points on senior night was special, sharing it with her teammates was even better.

“It was special but it's just another game and to do it with my teammates is the most important thing to me and everybody knocked down numerous shots,” Guilliams said. “It was a huge team effort and that's what was so special to me was that everybody contributed to our 82 points.”

Jackson began the game on an 11-4 run with help from Payton Gannon who scored back-to-back threes and excellent defense. South Iron used two first-quarter timeouts to attempt to stop the bleeding but Jackson had too much size on both ends, holding a 27-10 lead after one.

The second quarter was much of the same as in the first, with Jackson dominating inside and holding down the Panthers on the defensive end. Indians head coach Angela Fulton said her team performed well.

“We clicked on all cylinders tonight defensively and offensively,” Fulton said. “We got shots to fall so I think we clicked pretty well.”

The third quarter was a three-point barrage by the Indians, knocking down five of them and continuing to shut down the Panthers inside with their size. Jackson pushed the lead to 30, setting up the running clock for the fourth. In the fourth, Jackson put in their reserve players early and cruised to their third victory in a row.

Fulton said after their most recent loss to a Doniphan team ranked #1 in Class 4 the team learned how good they can be.

“I think the Doniphan game, and Doniphan is a really good team, and we competed with them so it kind of showed us we're there,” Fulton said. “It kind of built our confidence and we've started to take off, so we're gonna ride that momentum and continue forward.”

The Indians will need the momentum to continue when they welcome their rivals, the Notre Dame Bulldogs, to town on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
