FARMINGTON -- After three second place finishes, the Jackson High golf team won its first ever district title Tuesday at Eagle Lake Country Club.
Jackson won the Class 4A District 1 title with a four-man total of 310 to qualify for its fourth state tournament. Sikeston also qualified for state with a second-place total of 317. The state meet will be held May 19-20 at Sedalia Country Club.
Other team scores were Poplar Bluff 327, Cape Central 329, Oakville 335, Fox 341, Mehlville 356 and Northwest 368.
Although Central finished out of the state picture in fourth place, Central's Dane McLaird earned a trip to state as district medalist with a 3-over-par 75. McLaird, a junior, will be making his second trip to the state meet.
Four players from Jackson (16-1) earned all-district by placing in the top 10 individually. Travis Reiminger placed second individually with an 18-hole total of 76. Gabe Estes took fourth with a 77, John Litz fifth with a 78 and Tyler Luebbers ninth with a 79.
Other top scorers for Central (11-7) were Bryan Welker 83, Danny Groesbeck 85 and Chris Patterson 86.
BASEBALL
Oran 10, Bell City 2
ORAN -- Oran rolled to its 12th consecutive victory behind an 11-strikeout performance by Michael Stevens.
Stevens (4-0) walked just one and allowed five hits as Oran improved to 15-1.
Billy Loper led the Eagle offense with a home run and three RBIs. Lo per, Dustin Dannenmueller and Jeremy Pobst, who had a triple, each had two hits.
Bell City took a 1-0 lead into the third, but saw Oran score five times in the inning, the first of 10 unanswered runs by the Eagles.
Oran visits East Prairie on Thursday.
East Prairie 8, Chaffee 5 (9 inn.)
CHAFFEE -- East Prairie scored three unearned runs on four hits in the ninth inning to escape with a victory over 2A rival Chaffee.
Chaffee, the fifth seed in the 2A district held in Scott City next week, fell to 5-14. East Prairie, the sixth seed, improved to 6-7.
Jeremy Yarbro went the distance for Chaffee in the loss, striking out four. Freshman Tommy Stidham led the Red Devils offense with two of Chaffee's seven hits.
Chaffee will play its final regular-season game Friday at Oak Ridge.
SOCCER
Notre Dame 2, Marion, (Ill.) 1
MARION, Ill. -- Jennifer Glueck and Beth Essner scored first-half goals as Notre Dame held off Marion.
Glueck scored off a pass from Jamie Frank to open the scoring. After Marion tied the score 1-1, Glueck fed Essner for the winning goal just minutes before half.
Notre Dame improved to 10-8-1.
Notre Dame will visit Pacific Friday.
Jackson 10, Hillsboro 0
JACKSON -- Every Jackson senior scored in their final home game in a rout of Hillsboro.
Senior Missy Boyd scored two goals while classmates Hallie Roseman, Shannon Perry, Jackie Langford and Nicky Trankler each added one goal.
Jennifer Horst added two goals, while other tallies belonged to Julie Wunderlich and Johanna Gordon. Jackson's JV also won 6-0.
Jackson (11-3-1) wraps up its regular season Thursday at Carbondale.
SOFTBALL
Chaffee 1, East Prairie 0
CHAFFEE - Jamie Duncan fired a one-hitter as Chaffee emerged victorious in a pitching duel.
Chaffee (13-1) had just five hits and scored the game's lone run in the second inning when Abby Seyer walked, stole second and scored on an infield hit by Jennifer Siebert.
Duncan (8-1) struck out 10 batters and walked two.
Leopold visits Chaffee on Thursday.
Oran 13, Bell City 5
BELL CITY - Crystal Cochran collected four hits and four RBIs as Oran concluded its season on a winning note.
Sara Heisserer added three hits as Oran (3-7) had 13 hits overall.
Misty Senciboy went the distance on the mound, striking out nine, walking eight and allowing two hits.
With the score tied 1-1, Oran scored five runs in the second and three in the third for an 8-1 lead.
TRACK
BENTON -- Kelly's Amy Arteme set two school records and Travis Schiwitz broke one during an eight-team meet.
The Hawks won the boys meet with 131 points, led by Schiwitz's record-setting time of 1:59.10 in the 800-meter run. Charleston took second with 119.5 points.
For the girls, Charleston won with a total of 149 points and Kelly took second with 136.
Arteme's school records came in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs. Her times were 5:52 and 12:56 respectively.
Kelly hosts its district meet on Saturday.
