Jackson held off a furious Scott City comeback in the last inning for an 8-6 win Monday at Scott City in the season opener for both teams.

The Indians led 4-2 heading into the seventh inning and tallied four more in the top of the seventh. The Rams scored four runs in the last inning but couldn't complete the comeback.

Jackson's Logan Lawson went five innings, only allowing two runs on four hits. The Indians managed three hits.

Ryan Modglin was on the mound for Scott City, striking out 13 batters while walking 14. Blake Dirnberger went 2-3 with two RBIs for the Rams and Cody Carylyle added two more RBIs behind a 2-for-4 hitting performance.

Central senior Brad LaBruyere struck out 13 batters in five innings for the win in Central's season opener.

LaBruyere, who signed with Southeast Missouri State in the fall, allowed three hits and no runs. Blake Slattery and LaBruyere had three hits apiece and Garrett Stevens added two. LaBruyere added five RBIs, Stevens had three, including a home run. Slattery added two.

Central's junior varsity won 11-1 in five innings.

Chaffee pitchers struck out 13 and did not allow an earned run in a home win.

Chris Hanback struck out eight in four innings to pick up the win. Adam Urhahn added five strikeouts in three scoreless innings.

Hanback, Andy Hendrix, Urhahn and Aaron Horrell each had two hits for the Red Devils.

Trenton Moses had two hits for Advance. Rusty Hendricks allowed two earned runs in three innings for the loss.

Leopold withstood a late comeback to win its season opener.

The Wildcats surrendered two seventh-inning runs but came back with a score in the eighth to capture the win. Whitney Vandeven struck out five and allowed two hits over eight innings for the win.

Whitney Vandeven led Leopold's 10-hit attack with three hits. Erin Woodfin and Jenny Vandeven had two hits apiece.
