Indians, Wildcats land two on all-state

Eight local high school volleyball players earned all-state honors this fall, including two members from St. Vincent, which finished second in Class 2, and two members of the Leopold squad, which finished in third place in Class 1.

St. Vincent seniors Kelsey Cissell and Brooke Brown both earned first-team all-state honors in Class 2. Leopold's Maddy Hutchings earned second-team all state for Class 1 and Wildcats junior Casey Bucher was awarded a state honorable mention.

Three players from Bell City were honored. The Cubs lost to Leopold in the Class 1 quarterfinals, ending the Cubs' bid for a third straight final four appearance. Bell City senior Jessica Abner earned first-team all state in Class 1. Junior Codie Lancaster and senior Rachel Spears received state honorable mentions.

Central's Wendi Zickfield was awarded with Class 4 state honorable mention. Zickfield led the Tigers' volleyball program to its first 20-win season in school history.
