The top-seeded Saxony Lutheran girls basketball team scored more points in the first quarter than No. 8 Puxico totaled in the first round of the Delta New Years Tournament, and the Crusaders cruised into the semifinals with an 82-16 win Wednesday.
Brianna Mueller led the Crusaders with 19 points. Tess Daniel and Grace Mirly added 11 points apiece for Saxony Lutheran (9-1).
Saxony will face Meadow Heights in a 7 p.m. semifinal today.
The fourth-seeded Panthers advanced with a 46-41 win over fifth-seeded Scott County Central.
The Bravettes led 29-25 at halftime, but the Panthers rallied.
Taylor Cureton and Hayley Thorne bucketed 15 points apiece for Meadow Heights (4-6).
Anne Davis paced Scott County Central (2-3) with 15 points.
Tonight's other semifinal game will pit Woodland and St. Vincent at 8:30 p.m.
Second-seeded Woodland built a 24-point lead by halftime and defeated Delta, the No. 7 seed and tournament host, 76-47.
Josie Long led Woodland (8-1) with 31 points. Lindsay Shell added 16 points, and Keighlyn Lincoln scored 12.
Machela VanGennip connected on seven 3-pointers and tallied 29 points for Delta (1-7).
Sixth-seeded St. Vincent provided the lone upset of the first round with a 51-37 victory over third-seeded Oran.
Katie Mattingly scored 22 points to lead the Indians (3-7), while Kayla Winkler added 11 points.
Christian Sauceda led Oran (2-3) with 15 points -- all on 3-pointers. Addie Kielhofner contributed 11 points.
Tonight's semifinals will be preceded by the consolation semifinals. Scott County Central will face Puxico at 4 p.m.; Delta and Oran will follow at 5:30 p.m.
The Championship is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday.
