A recap of Thursday's local high school action reported to the Southeast Missourian.

The Jackson volleyball team picked up a huge victory Thursday night.

Jackson stunned host Notre Dame 25-21, 25-19 to hand the state-ranked Bulldogs just their second loss.

Notre Dame, rated No. 3 in Class 3, fell to 17-2. The Indians improved to 18-5.

"It was a fantastic match," Jackson coach Maile Gannon said. "Our kids were fired up. They've been ready to play this match for two days, and they came out with some extreme intensity."

Rachael Meyr led the Indians with 11 assists, three service aces and two kills.

Taylor Glueck had nine digs, three kills and two aces.

Cassandra Bollinger added nine digs, while Mary Ann Bradshaw contributed two kills and two blocks.

"We did not miss a serve all match. We kept Notre Dame on their heels," Gannon said.

Allyson Bradshaw led Notre Dame in kills with seven, followed by Meghan Dohogne with six.

Shannon Brennan dished out 14 assists and Lindsay Strieker recorded four blocks.

"They're a good team. They played better than we did tonight," Notre Dame coach Tara Stroup said. "Some things just didn't go our way. We had a hard time at the beginning setting up our offense. They served pretty hard."

Leopold 25 25 25 Oran 8 5 12

Abby Landewee had 13 kills and three blocks as the Wildcats made short work of the visiting Eagles.

Mackenzie Beel had 12 kills for Leopold (15-2), Kirsten Thele added 11 kills and three aces, and Lauren Seiler recorded 33 assists along with three aces.

Scott City 25 25 25 Bell City 15 12 12

The Rams boosted their record to 18-2 during their "Fight for Cure" match against the Cubs.

Brooke Simpson pounded 12 kills and added 11 digs, four kill blocks and three aces.

Mikah Simpson tacked on 10 kills, eight digs and two aces, while Katie Hogan added five kills, nine digs and three aces.

Stephanie Essner threw down four kills and had eight digs, while Jordan McFall had 13 assists and three digs for the Rams.

Perryville 25 25 Crystal City 19 11

Hannah Kutz served two aces and recorded seven digs to help lead the Pirates to a victory on the road.

Natalie Hagan put up six blocks and five kills, while Samantha Amberger added five kills for Perryville (15-6).

Bloomfield 25 25 Woodland 22 19

Kaitlin McCormick had eight kills and six blocks for the Cardinals in a home loss.

Woodland (8-10) got four kills and three blocks from Kendra Pinkley, 14 assists from Becky Brannon and 10 digs from Ashley Acup.

JV -- Bloomfield won 25-18, 25-17

SOFTBALL

Notre Dame 1, Cobden 0

Lauren Reinagel delivered at the plate and in the circle against the reigning Illinois Class 1A state champions.

Reinagel allowed one hit and struck out 14 to earn the win. She also drove in her team's lone run with a bases-loaded sacrifice.

Jane Morrill collected two hits for the Bulldogs (19-2).

Central 13, Chaffee 5

Emily Myers struck out five and walked four to help pitch the Tigers past the host Red Devils. She also went 3 for 3 at the plate.

Hailey Enderle struck out one for Chaffee.

Hannah Bedwell homered in the loss.

Scott City (7-12) benefited from 16 walks by St. Vincent pitchers.

Alexis Spriggs was the winning hurler. Scott City's offense was led by two hits from Jenna Cummins.

Jackson finished second in a tri-meet hosted by Fort Zumwalt West.

Ryan Gibson had a state-cut time for the Indians as he won the 100 butterfly. He also captured the 200 individual medley.

The Central boys and girls teams both finished second at the meet.

Mary Dohogne led the Central girls with a sixth-place finish, while Megan Daly (eighth) and Jordyn Richmond (10th) also finished in the top 10.

Roy Leighton led the boys team with a 15th-place finish.
