High school roundup: Central girls basketball team falls short of Northwest title in OT

Missed free throws cost the Central girls basketball team Saturday as the Tigers fell 35-33 in overtime to Ritenour in the championship game of the Northwest Tournament in Cedar Hill, Mo.

Central hit just 4 of 14 free throws in the game. Ritenour fared even worse from the line, making just 5 of 20 free throws.

Kassidy Pannier's 3-pointer accounted for the Tigers' only points in the overtime.

Alayah Cooper-Johnson had a double-double for Central (2-1) with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Chelsea Vinson added nine rebounds along with four assists.

Notre Dame posted a lopsided victory to finish third in the Farmington Tournament.

The Bulldogs (2-1) were led by Miranda Fowler and Kaitlin Welter with 13 points each. Karsen Powers added 12 points.

The Bulldogs bounced back from Friday's 61-43 semifinal loss to Miller Career Academy. Fowler had 18 points and Powers added 10.

Jackson wins title

Jackson easily won its five matches and placed first in the Patriot Classic held at Parkway South in St. Louis.

The Indians defeated St. Louis University High 54-13, Mehlville 67-12, Parkway South 50-22, Columbia Hickman 51-16 and Francis Howell North 51-13.

Individual champions for Jackson were sophomore Jared Reisenbichler at 106 pounds, freshman Jake Byrd at 120, junior Tyler Rush at 138 and sophomore Preston Hobeck at heavyweight.

Placing third were senior Kodi Byrd at 113, sophomore Josh Stone at 182, junior Clay Darnell at 220 and senior Stone Selsor at 132.

Fort Zumwalt North placed first with 270 points.
