All the local high school events reported Thursday to the Southeast Missourian.

Poplar Bluff held a 13-point scoring edge in the second quarter on its way to a 59-42 road win against the Central girls basketball team Thursday.

Kelly Morton totaled 14 points for the Tigers.

Central led 10-9 after one quarter but went into halftime trailing 29-17. The Tigers cut the deficit to 39-31 by the end of the third quarter and closed with four points with less than five minutes remaining in the game.

Sarah Boerboom grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds for Central (1-6) and added eight points, while Maddie Daum tallied six points, six steals and five assists.

Samantha Gatewood scored a game-high 16 points for Poplar Bluff (5-7).

Gaven Ray poured in 18 points to help the Hawks pick up their second victory of the season on the road.

Kelly started led 34-23 at halftime and played the Wildcats to a 30-30 stalemate in the second half. The teams combined for 55 fouls.

Dalton Huffman added 11 points and Josh Roberts had 10 for Kelly (2-5).
