The Plaza Tire Capahas suffered their first loss of the season Wednesday night in their road opener.

The St. Louis Golden Spikes hammered out 17 hits and took advantage of five errors to rout the Capahas 14-4. The game was stopped after 6 1/2 innings by the 10-run rule.

"It's a good thing somebody didn't get hurt tonight because we played that sloppy," said Capahas manager Jess Bolen, whose squad fell to 4-1. "It was not like Capahas baseball. We just had a bad game and they had a good game.

"But I don't want to take anything away from them because they've got a good team and they've got some good hitters. They always do. They pounded the ball pretty good."

The Capahas led 4-1 through 2 1/2 innings before the Golden Spikes took control. They went ahead for good with a four-run third inning and never looked back.

Kody Campbell had two of the Capahas' eight hits.

Tanner Hiett suffered the loss on the mound. He allowed seven hits and five runs, three earned, over 2 1/3 innings.

The Capahas begin a five-game homestand Friday when Fairview Heights, Ill., visits for an 8 p.m. contest. The game has been moved back from its originally scheduled 7:30 p.m. start.
