Brevin Giebler of Cape Girardeau, who tied for stroke-play medalist in securing the No. 1 seed, won his first-round match Thursday as the match-play portion of the Men's Missouri Amateur Championship began at Buffalo Ridge Golf Course in Hollister, Missouri.

Giebler, who shot 68 on Tuesday and 67 on Wednesday to tie with Wayne Frederick of Springfield, Missouri, for the medalist honor with a 135 total in stroke play, defeated 64th-seed Greg Sanborn of Ellisville, Missouri, 2 up in his first-round match Thursday. Giebler will face Griffen Locke of Joplin, Missouri, in today's second round. Locke advanced with a 3-and-2 victory over Jake Seabaugh of Cape Girardeau.

Seabaugh had tied for the 26th spot in stroke play after rounds of 71 and 74. Among players in the tie at 145 was Gabe Wheeler of Sikeston, who had rounds of 74 and 71.

Wheeler won his first-round match over Nicholas Rehmer of Blue Springs, Missouri, 2 up. He will face Ron Eilers of Columbia, Missouri, today.
