THE FIRST-YEAR STARTER WAS NOT ASKED TO CARRY THE OFFENSE, BUT WHEN ST. VINCENT NEEDED A BIG PLAY IN THE AIR, HE WAS ABLE TO DELIVER. MOST IMPORTANTLY, HE DID NOT MAKE THE MISTAKES THE VICTIMIZE SEVERAL HIGH SCHOOL QUARTERBACKS. ARMBRUSTER HAD 13 TOUCHDOWNS TO JUST SIX INTERCEPTIONS, THE BEST RATIO OF ANY PASSER IN THE AREA. HE FINISHED WITH 1,139 YARDS PASSING AND 120 RUSHING. HE HELPED LEAD THE TEAM TO ITS FIRST STATE TITLE.
RB -- MATT SCHAEFER, SR., SCOTT CITY
SCHAEFER WAS A CONSISTENT OFFENSIVE FORCE FOR THE 8-2 RAMS DESPITE STANDING JUST 5-FOOT-5. IN HELPING SCOTT CITY GO FROM THREE WINS IN 2003 TO NINE THIS SEASON, SCHAEFER RUSHED FOR MORE THAN 100 YARDS IN ALL 10 GAMES, FINISHING WITH 1,577 AND 18 TOUCHDOWNS. IN THE PASSING GAME, SCHAEFER ADDED ANOTHER 22 CATCHES FOR 290 YARDS AND THREE TOUCHDOWNS. SCHAEFER WAS ALSO ONE OF THE AREA'S TOP KICKERS, FINISHING WITH SIX FIELD GOALS AND SCORING 151 POINTS ON THE SEASON.
RB -- MATT UNTERREINER, SR., PERRYVILLE
UNTERREINER WAS PERRYVILLE'S TOP WEAPON IN A DISTRICT TITLE SEASON. BESIDES RUSHING FOR 1,494 YARDS, UNTERREINER ALSO HAD TWO TOUCHDOWNS ON SPECIAL TEAMS -- ONE ON A KICK RETURN AND ONE ON A PUNT RETURN. HE ALSO PASSED FOR A SCORE.
WR -- NEAL GROSSHEIDER, SR., JACKSON
GROSSHEIDER WAS JACKSON'S BIG-PLAY RECEIVER, AVERAGING MORE THAN 18 YARDS A CATCH. DURING JACKSON'S 7-3 SEASON, GROSSHEIDER HAD SEVERAL BIG GAMES WHILE COMPILING 322 YARDS ON 17 CATCHES.
WR -- GEFF MIRLY, SO., CHAFFEE
MIRLY WAS ONE OF THE BRIGHT SPOTS IN ANOTHER WINLESS SEASON FOR THE RED DEVILS. MIRLEY FINISHED WITH 25 CATCHES FOR 493 YARDS, AN AVERAGE OF 19.7 YARDS A CATCH. HE HAD A CATCH IN ALL 10 GAMES, INCLUDING A FIVE-CATCH, 107-YARD GAME AGAINST STATE CHAMPION ST. VINCENT.
TE -- BRAD CRADER, SR., JACKSON
CRADER PROVIDED SOFT HANDS AND A BIG TARGET FOR JACKSON. IN A RUN-FIRST OFFENSE, CRADER WAS A VALUABLE RUN-BLOCKER AND EVEN CARRIED THE BALL AT TIMES. HE CAUGHT 13 PASSES FOR 186 YARDS CRADER AVERAGED MORE THAN 14 YARDS A CATCH AND RUSHED 23 TIMES FOR 164 YARDS.
TE -- DANNY RELLERGERT, SR., ST. VINCENT
RELLERGERT WAS ST. VINCENT'S GO-TO RECEIVER, CATCHIG 27 PASSES OF THE TEAM'S 73 COMPLETIONS (37 PERCENT). AT 6-4, RELLERGERT PROVIDED A BIG TARGET WITH ABILITY TO CATCH HIGH BALLS. IN THE STATE FINALS, RELLERGERT'S LEAPING ABILITY HELPED HIM TO PICK OFF THREE PASSES ON DEFENSE, ALONG WITH ADDING A TOUCHDOWN RECEPTION ON OFFENSE.
OL -- ANDY GLASS, SR., JACKSON
GLASS LED A JACKSON LINE WHICH WAS CAPABLE OF CONTROLLING A GAME DURING A 7-3 SEASON THAT FEATURED A RETURN TO SMASHMOUTH FOOTBALL FOR JACKSON. AT 6-4 AND 230 POUNDS, GLASS WAS ONE OF SEVERAL INDIANS LINEMAN TO HELP TURN AROUND A LINE WHICH WAS CONSIDERED SMALL A SEASON AGO WHEN THE TEAM FINISHED BELOW .500.
OL -- MATT JAMES, SR., JACKSON
JAMES WAS ANOTHER JACKSON LINEMAN WHO HELPED OPEN NUMEROUS HOLES FOR THE RUNNING TANDEM OF AUSTIN BOCK AND JASON MEYSTEDT. JAMES WAS A LOAD FOR ANY OPPOSING DEFENSE TO HANDLE AT 6-5 AND 280 POUNDS.
OL -- MARK PROST, SR., ST. VINCENT
A RETURNING ALL-STATE LINEMAN, PROST HELPED ANCHOR ONE OF THE STRENGTHS OF THE INDIANS SQUAD. PROST PROVIDED A MASSIVE FORCE TO RUN BEHIND AT 6-4 AND 290 POUNDS.
OL -- BRIAN BUCHHEIT, SR., ST. VINCENT
BUCHHEIT WAS A STRONG TWO-WAY PLAYER FOR THE INDIANS, MAKING ALL-STATE ON DEFENSE AFTER HIS JUNIOR SEASON. AS A SENIOR, BUCHHEIT STARTED AT CENTER AND WAS ONE OF ST. VINCENT'S THREE CAPTAINS.
OL -- BEN BUCHHEIT, JR., ST. VINCENT
BEN BUCHHEIT WAS THE ONLY NONSENIOR TO START ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE. BUCHHEIT PROVIDED ANOTHER BIG PRESENCE AT GUARD STANDING 6-0 AND WEIGHING 255 POUNDS.
K -- KYLE KLINE, SR., ST. VINCENT
KLINE GAVE THE INDIANS A SCORING OPTION EVEN WHEN THE OFFENSE COULDN'T CROSS THE GOAL LINE. KLINE'S RANGE MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR THE INDIANS TO ROUTINELY GO FOR FIELD GOALS BEYOND 40 YARDS. HE LED THE AREA WITH EIGHT FIELD GOAL CONVERSIONS TO GO WITH 28 POINT-AFTER TOUCHDOWN KICKS. ON KICKOFFS, KLINE ROUTINELY PUT THE BALL INSIDE THE 10-YARD LINE IF NOT INTO THE END ZONE.

DL -- BILLY UREN, SR., JACKSON
UREN WAS A DISRUPTIVE PRESENCE FOR THE INDIANS ON THE LINE. DESPITE BEING 6-4 AND 235 POUNDS, UREN HAD GOOD MOBILITY AND SPEED FROM THE END.
DL -- COLE JANSEN, SR., JACKSON
AT 6-1 AND 235 POUNDS, JANSEN WAS ANOTHER STRONG PRESENCE FOR THE JACKSON DEFENSE, WHICH ALLOWED 17.3 POINTS PER GAME.
DL -- WAYLON RICHARDET, JR., ST. VINCENT
WHILE RUSHING FOR 925 YARDS AS THE TEAM'S LEADING RUSHER, RICHARDET ALSO WAS THE LEADING TACKLER AND TOP SACKER FOR A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM THAT ALLOWED JUST 6.9 POINTS PER GAME. AT 6-2 AND 220 POUNDS, RICHARDET ACCOUNTED FOR FOUR TACKLES FOR LOSSES IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.
DL -- BRIAN BUCHHEIT, SR., ST. VINCENT
AS ON OFFENSE, BUCHHEIT WAS A BIG PRESENCE ON THE DEFENSIVE LINE. THE INDIANS DID NOT ALLOW MORE THAN 17 POINTS IN A GAME.
LB -- MATT SCHAMBURG, SR., PERRYVILLE
SCHAMBURG WAS AN ACTIVE PLAYER FOR THE PIRATES THIS SEASON, RECORDING MORE THAN 100 TACKLES FROM HIS LINEBACKER SPOT.
LB -- BRANDON TWIGGS, SR., CENTRAL
THE TIGERS STRUGGLED MIGHTILY AFTER LOSING A STRONG SENIOR CLASS, BUT TWIGGS CONTINUED HIS STRONG PLAY FROM THE LINEBACKER SPOT.
LB -- LUKE GUYOT, SR., ST. VINCENT
ANOTHER LINEBACKER WHO ALSO LINES UP IN THE OFFENSIVE BACKFIELD, GUYOT FINISHED WITH NEARLY 100 TACKLES.
LB -- BLAKE ULRICH, SR., JACKSON
ULRICH HAS BEEN A BIG PRESENCE AT LINEBACKER FOR THE INDIANS SINCE HIS SOPHOMORE SEASON.
DB -- SHAUN HANN, SR., SCOTT CITY
HANN ENDED HIS RAMS CAREER WITH ANOTHER STRONG SEASON IN THE SECONDARY. HANN ONCE AGAIN EARNED ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS AND WAS A KEY COMPONENT IN THE TEAM'S TURNAROUND THIS SEASON.
DB -- JUSTIN RUESSLER, SR., ST. VINCENT
RUESSLER LED THE INDIANS WITH FIVE INTERCEPTIONS, INCLUDING ONE OF ST. VINCENT'S SIX INTERCEPTIONS IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. RUESSLER WAS THE LEADING TACKLER IN THE SECONDARY.
DB -- JASON MEYSTEDT, SR., JACKSON
MEYSTEDT MOVED OVER TO DEFENSIVE BACK THIS SEASON AND EXCELLED AT THE SAFETY POSITION.
P -- DANNY RELLERGERT, SR., ST. VINCENT
AFTER AVERAGING 37 YARDS PER PUNT IN THE REGULAR SEASON, RELLERGERT'S PERFORMANCE IN THE STATE TITLE GAME WAS A KEY TO THE INDIANS' VICTORY. RELLERGERT WAS ABLE TO PIN EAST BUCHANAN DOWN DEEP IN ITS OWN TERRITORY THROUGHOUT THE GAME.
KEITH WINKLER, ST. VINCENT
IN HIS FIFTH SEASON, WINKLER LED THE INDIANS TO A 13-1 RECORD AND THEIR FIRST STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. WINKLER'S CAREER COACHING MARK NOW IS 45-14 WITH THREE STATE PLAYOFF APPEARANCES.
