Dylan Lynn turned in the best pitching performance of his career on Saturday.

The Plaza Tire Capahas starting pitcher struck out 16 over nine innings in a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Printers at Capaha Field.

"I felt good today," Lynn said. "It's definitely the best performance in a Capahas uniform and probably one of my best ever."

Lynn's fastball was on point throughout the game. The former Southeast Missouri State University relief pitcher struck out the first seven batters he faced before giving up a single in the third inning.

By the fourth inning Lynn had 10 strikeouts and said he began to use his slider effectively, which led to more strikeouts.

"The fastball really opened that up," Lynn said about his slider. "They were starting to figure me out a little bit, and I had to go to my next best pitch."

Capahas manager Jess Bolen said that was the best performance he had seen out of Lynn.

"He's got a real good history," Bolen said. "He's been a collegiate pitcher for a long time, and he's got good stuff. He kept the ball down, used the fastball and slider real well and basically got us the win."

Catcher Alex Heuring doubled to score Cody Heisserer for the Capahas first run of the game in the first inning.

The Printers tied the game in the fourth after Lynn loaded the bases by giving up two singles and a walk. An infield hit scored a run to tie it before Lynn ended the inning with his 12th strikeout.

The Capahas regained the lead with two runs in the fifth. Designated hitter Chase Simmons reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on a throwing error by the Printer's third baseman to make it 2-1. Drew Morecroft doubled two batters later, stole third and scored on a wild pitch.

The Capahas added one more run in the sixth when Simmons singled to score Ramsey Scott.

Plaza Tire will begin play in the National Baseball Congress World Series on Friday in Wichita, Kansas.

The Capahas held their annual auction at the Event Center in the Isle Casino in Cape Girardeau on Friday night to help fund their trip to the NBC World Series.

Event coordinator Mary Bolen said more than 200 guests were in attendance and a little over 90 bidders took home items.

"It went very good, it was one of the best auctions we've had," Mary Bolen said. "People really stepped up and helped us out with donating items."

Mary Bolen said the auction raised enough money for the team's trip to the NBC World Series, but they will be shooting for a higher target next year.

"There are some things I would have done differently, but overall I think we were all pleased with the results," Mary Bolen said.

Mary Bolen said some of the items sold included an autographed picture of Jim Edmonds, two grills and an autographed baseball from Seattle Mariners pitcher and former Capahas pitcher Matt Palmer.

"I'm grateful to everyone that came out and to the Isle for the food and Event Center they provided," Mary Bolen said. "And so are the Capahas. Their trip to the World Series would not be possible without all of this."
