Favre shines as Packers carve up Ravens 31-23

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Brett Favre tore apart the Baltimore Ravens' vaunted defense for 337 yards and three touchdowns on 27-of-34 passing as the Green Bay Packers beat the defending Super Bowl champions 31-23 Sunday.

Antonio Freeman, who caught just nine passes for 80 yards in the Packers' first four games, had nine receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown.

The Packers (4-1) forced four turnovers and scored more points against the Ravens (3-2) than any team since Jacksonville in a 39-36 loss to Baltimore on Sept. 10, 2000.

Baltimore's Elvis Grbac sustained a mild concussion in the first half but didn't leave until 6:51 remained. Randall Cunningham replaced him and led Baltimore on two scoring drives.

Ahman Green, the league's leading rusher, was limited to 54 yard on 20 carries.

TITANS 31, BUCCANEERS 28

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Joe Nedney kicked a 49-yard field goal in overtime as Tennessee beat Tampa Bay after blowing a 14-point lead in the final 7:53 of regulation.

Brad Johnson rallied the Bucs by tossing two of his three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, including a 5-yarder with 54 seconds left that tied it at 28.

In overtime, the Titans (1-3) forced the Bucs (2-2) to punt. Joe Walker returned Mark Royals' 45-yard punt to the Tampa Bay 46 to set up the winning drive.

Steve McNair, who threw for a touchdown and ran for another, was 15-of-23 for 230 yards and added 54 yards on nine carries for Tennessee.

49ERS 37, FALCONS 31

ATLANTA -- Jeff Garcia threw his third touchdown pass of the game to Terrell Owens, a 52-yarder with 6:16 left in overtime to give San Francisco a victory over Atlanta.

San Francisco (4-1), rallying from an early 14-0 deficit, tied it at 31 when Garcia hooked up with Owens on a 17-yard TD with 17 seconds left in regulation.

Garcia was 27-of-41 for 332 yards, duplicating a Week 1 comeback that led to another overtime victory over Atlanta (2-3).

Chris Chandler, who went out with a concussion the previous week, was 19-for-36 for 268 yards, two TDs and an interception.

PATRIOTS 29, CHARGERS 26

FOXBORO, Mass. -- Tom Brady rallied New England from a late 10-point deficit and helped set up Adam Vinatieri's 44-yard field goal in overtime to lead the Patriots (2-3) over San Diego (3-2).

With the Patriots trailing by 10 points in the fourth, Vinatieri kicked a 23-yard field goal with 3:31 left and Brady connected with Jermaine Wiggins on a 3-yard pass with 36 seconds to go, tying the score.

Brady, starting his third game as a pro for the injured Drew Bledsoe, completed 33 of 54 passes for 364 yards and two touchdowns. Doug Flutie went 20-for-32 for 270 yards and one touchdown.

BEARS 20, CARDINALS 13

CHICAGO -- R.W. McQuarters returned a third-quarter fumble 69 yards for a touchdown to lift Chicago over Arizona.

Mike Brown knocked the ball loose from Michael Pittman, and McQuarters picked it up and ran untouched for the score that put the Bears up 20-6 with 7:33 left in the third.

Chicago (3-1) held the Cardinals (1-3) without a touchdown until Jake Plummer hit Frank Sanders on a 7-yard pass with 2:52 left, completing a 13-play, 99-yard drive.

Plummer finished 20-of-37 for 216 yards, while Jim Miller was 16-of-22 for 116.

SAINTS 27, PANTHERS 25

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Ricky Williams outran the Carolina defense on a 1-yard race to the end zone with no time left to win it for New Orleans.

With 1 second left, the Panthers stacked the line, assuming quarterback Aaron Brooks or Williams might try to go straight into the end zone. Instead, Williams took the pitch and went around the left side of the line untouched for the score, capping a late flurry of scoring that prevented the Saints (3-1) from nearly losing a game they dominated.

The Panthers (1-4) lost their fourth straight, their longest losing streak since they opened the 1998 season 0-7.

Williams finished with 147 yards on 31 carries with just one touchdown. Brooks passed for 180 yards and threw for two first-half touchdowns to Cam Cleeland.

BENGALS 24, BROWNS 14

CINCINNATI -- Corey Dillon ran for a season-high 140 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown as Cincinnati (3-2) beat Cleveland (3-2) in front of a crowd of 64,217 -- the largest ever to see a sporting event in Cincinnati.

Dillon's 5-yard run early in the fourth allowed a Bengals defense missing linebacker Takeo Spikes to dig in and prevent another fourth-quarter comeback by Tim Couch and the upstart Browns.

Cincinnati is off to its best start since 1990, the last time it had a winning record.

STEELERS 20, CHIEFS 17

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jerome Bettis rushed for 112 yards and set up two scores as Pittsburgh held off a late rally and beat Kansas City.

Bettis has rushed for more than 100 yards in five of six games against the Chiefs (1-4).

The Steelers (3-1) never trailed against the Chiefs, who fell to 0-3 at home for the first time since 1980. Kris Brown kicked two field goals, including a 55-yarder, and Chad Scott intercepted a pass from Trent Green and ran it back 61 yards for a touchdown.

The Steelers led 20-2 going into the fourth quarter when the Chiefs scored twice with the help of Priest Holmes, who had 150 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.

VIKINGS 31, LIONS 26

MINNEAPOLIS -- Daunte Culpepper rushed seven times for 83 yards and two touchdowns, and threw for another score as Minnesota (2-3) withstood 20 straight Detroit points in the second half.

Culpepper was 20-for-28 for 244 yards and a touchdown, and an interception. Cris Carter had eight catches for 111 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown pass.

Charlie Batch, starting for the first time since Week 1, was 31-of-41 for 345 yards for the Lions -- 0-4 for the first time since 1989.

JETS 21, DOLPHINS 17

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Jets rallied from a 17-point deficit to extend their winning streak over Miami to seven.

Last year, the Jets (3-2) stormed back from a 30-7 deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Dolphins 40-37 in overtime on a Monday night, a game dubbed the Miracle at the Meadowlands.

Laveranues Coles caught two TD passes, and Curtis Martin rushed for 120 yards.

The maligned Jets defense rose against the Dolphins (3-2) in the final moments with interceptions by Marvin Jones and Victor Green.

SEAHAWKS 34, BRONCOS 21

SEATTLE -- Trent Dilfer, playing for the second straight week in place of injured Matt Hasselbeck, made it 13 consecutive victories as a starting quarterback as Seattle beat Denver.

Dilfer, the starter for the Baltimore Ravens in their Super Bowl win over the New York Giants, didn't commit a turnover as the Seahawks (3-2) ended a three-game skid against the Broncos (3-2).

Dilfer, signed by the Seahawks as a free agent in August, was 12-for-18 for 110 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Shaun Alexander had 142 yards on 33 carries for Seattle.

RAIDERS 23, COLTS 18

INDIANAPOLIS -- Rich Gannon threw for 216 yards, Sebastian Janikowski kicked three field goals and Anthony Dorsett returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown to lead Oakland (4-1) past Indianapolis (2-2).
