Farmington opens tourney with 64-6 rout of Crusaders

Top seeded Farmington led 50-0 at halftime and won 64-6 as they made easy work of a young Saxony Lutheran team in the first round of the Saint Francis Medical Center Holiday Classic.

Brooke Valleroy, Emma Meraz and Kara Verseman each had two points for the Crusaders.

Second-seeded Jackson had four players in double figures, led by Ashten Howard with 18 points and Cassandra Bollinger with 17 points, as they romped Woodland 67-21.

Taylor Steckman led the seventh-seeded Cardinals with 12 points.

Notre Dame, the sixth seed, pulled off the upset against third-seeded Sparta, Ill., as they turned a slim two-point halftime lead into a convincing 57-37 victory.

The Bulldogs were led by Jane Morrill with 15 points. Alex Fowler netted 12 points and Paige Schumer added 11 for the Bulldogs.

In the winner's bracket, Farmington will take on Cape Central tonight at 7 p.m. and Notre Dame will face off against Jackson at 8:30 p.m.

In consolation play, Perryville will meet Saxony Lutheran at 4 p.m. and Sparta will take on Woodland at 5:30 p.m.
