I WISH you would pay attention to all of the collegiate sports, because baseball is not the only sport. The track team has athletes still in season. We work hard, and we're some of the best athletes around. I think we would deserve some recognition for our abilities. I would like to read more about college track and field, especially since it is local. Also, try to get the facts.
All about the PR
ANNIKA SORENSTAM's decision to "compete"in the Colonial this week is nothing more than a public relations scam. It's even more unfortunate that America has fallen for it hook, line and sinker. Thanks to Jamie Hall for calling it like it really is.
A Cardinal crisis
IT MAY not be the worst crisis facing our nation, but the worst one facing Missourians is the Cardinals' bullpen.
Another just like him
I AM 100 percent against cloning, but I wish we could clone just one person in Cape Girardeau: Derek Smith, the new athletic director at Central. Derek will do a great job. He will be very organized, things will run smoothly and he will represent Central and the district in a fantastic manner. However, we're losing one of the best coaches in the area as well as probably the best math teacher in the state. Coach Smith coached football and baseball and has done a great job at both. There's no politics involved with coach Smith, and he teaches the kids, which is something that some coaches don't do anymore. In the classroom, you won't find a teacher who is more patient, explains things better and is a better all-around teacher. Coach Smith, we wish you all the best in your new position.
That almost makes sense
WE HAVE female athletes in men's pro wrestling, so why not in men's golf?
We paid too much
THIS IS about the high school district track meet. As a grandparent, I've attended many track events, but going to one at Abe Stuber Track and Field Complex was a new experience. We were charged $3 admission for each adult and $3 for each child of any age. I just feel like it's pretty tacky to invite all the other schools to come and then charge them and their families admission.
Hopping back on
NEAT ARTICLE about getting started cycling for those of us who, unfortunately, haven't parked our butts on a bicycle seat in years. With the holiday weekend here, I'm inclined to at least think about maybe not watching TV all weekend and riding a bike.
To each his (and her) own
THERE IS a pro golf tour for women and there is one for men. I'm a woman in my 40s and don't understand this strong need for women to take over everything that men have. We're not men. We never were intended to be a man, and why do we always feel we have to encroach upon men's territory? Women have a fit if they can't get into an all-men's club, but there are more all-women's clubs than there are all-men's clubs. How many all-women's golfing groups do you have at Kimbeland and the country club? There are men that can play there, but they have the sense to realize that women need to have something of their own. Why can't men do the same thing? Those of you who think a woman should be allowed to play on the PGA Tour, fine. The first thing that I hope happens is that men say, 'OK, what's fair for you is fair for us,' and they walk onto the women's tour.
Outta the park
WOW, I can't believe J.D. Drew hit a 514-yard home run. That's over a quarter mile.
Where were you?
JUST A note to the local TV station:The biggest baseball upset of the year Friday night was actually Notre Dame defeating Sikeston, not Dexter. And would it have been so difficult for any media outlet in Cape Girardeau to have photos or video from that game? These are the playoffs, folks. Or have you moved on to football season already?
