Way to go, Indians

I WOULD like to congratulate the players of the Jackson Indians football team. What an outstanding job you did against Central. However the coaching staff of Jackson could use a little help. They need to call the plays earlier. Good luck for the remainder of the season.

It doesn't sound fair

THE COACH for the women's basketball team at Southeast has required that his players carry basketballs with them this semester, wherever they go -- even to class. Doesn't such a requirement constitute hazing?

Ignoring Scott City

I SUPPOSE you all just skipped a week of football for Scott City. Scott City had a home game against Park Hills on Oct. 10, but there was no coverage in either Saturday and Sunday's paper. You did what you have done the past couple of years -- give coverage to the pro and college sports.

We often must rely on coaches or correspondents to report information from games we're not able to attend. Information on that game wasn't provided to us.

... and the opposing view

THE SUNDAY and Monday sports pages are pitiful. No reporting on college games and none on the pros. Come on.

Congrats to the coach

I'M A longtime Central fan, but my hat's off to Carl Gross from the Jackson Indians for the outstanding performance at Houck Stadium by beating Central. Despite my disappointment in the outcome, I know it was good for him to beat the Tigers in the same year his father passed away. I'm sure it was a very emotional win. Congratulations to the Tigers in the way they accepted defeat. It was a great game.

No Central fan

I'M AMAZED by all the attention being given to Central this year. I don't see what the big deal is.

Jackson was no surprise

THIS IS in response to the article that was written about the Central and Jackson game. It was not a soggy surprise. We all know that Jackson plays a lot tougher schools than they have in past years. Just because their record was not comparable going into the game doesn't mean a thing. Just because no one thought Jackson was going to win doesn't mean they weren't good enough to win. They deserve all the credit for the way they played.

Setting it straight

THIS IS for the sports editor. Missouri did beat Nebraska in 1978, but that was in Lincoln. Last Saturday was the first time the Tigers beat the Cornhuskers at home since 1973.

Question about coverage

DIDN'T B.A. Sports have an exhibition at the Show Me Center recently? I saw nothing in the paper reporting on this. Now I see they have another ad on the TV for another exhibition. Let's find out what happened at SEMO like attendees, who won the contests and games, etc.

B.A. Sports sponsors several events around the area throughout the year, but almost all of them are noncompetitive exhibition events designed for college coaches. We provide coverage of some of these events, but not all.

Houck parking problems

TO THE employee of Central at the east end of the football field Thursday: You told me I could not park my father's car in the handicap spot because you had them reserved. Yet no one ever showed to use these spots, and my father, who is disabled, had a very hard time walking out of the stadium. His car was legal to park in those spaces. I hope Jackson fans and workers continue to treat people with respect.

Cheering on the Tigers

CONGRATULATIONS TO Mizzou for beating Nebraska. It's about time!

He should've known

HEY, DAVID Wilson, I can't believe you thought Carl Yastrzemski hit the homer in the World Series against the Reds. Everybody knows it was Carlton Fisk.

As punishment, we'll require him to a wear a Cubs cap next season.

The Jackson storm

I'M NOT sure why people complained about the rain at the Central-Jackson game. The only things raining were Marc Lumsden passes and Jason Meystedt flee-flickers.
