The Dexter Lady Bearcats hosted the Cape Central Lady Tigers last night at the Bearcat Event Center coming out on top 68-32.  The Bearcats started off a little slow offensively but the press and  half court defense quickly forced a number of turnovers early and often helping them jump out to a 11-4 lead in the first quarter.          

The Bearcats  defensive  pressure and timely 3 point shots from Allison Turnbo, Kate Nichols, and Abbie Lloyd in the 2nd quarter helped Dexter build their lead going into the locker room ahead 26-11.    Emani Summers kept Central in striking distance scoring 8 of her team’s 11 points in the first half. Coach Eric Sitze was pleased with his team’s defense.

“I liked our energy level tonight,” said Sitze. We were very active on the defensive end of the floor. The Summers girl is a hard match up she is tough to stop.”

In the 3rd quarter Cape came out swinging going on a 6-0 run before Mauriona Menley hit a quick shot in the lane that sparked the Lady Bearcats on their own run. The 3rd quarter remained close with the Bearcats outscoring the Tigers 18-15.

In the 4th it was Dexter’s Abbie Lloyd and Kate Nichols connecting on 3 three pointer’s forcing Cape to extend their defense allowing Dexter the opportunity to get some inside looks. The Lady Bearcats quickly capitalized.   Allison Turnbo and Kate Nichols scored on consecutive trips building their lead. Cape would not go quietly dominating on the offensive boards but unable to convert enough to  get them back in the game.  The Lady Cats out scored Central 18-12 in the final decisive quarter. Dexter’s Kate Nichols led Dexter in scoring with 29 points. Abbie Lloyd had 19 and Allison Turnbo added 8 in the win for the Lady Cats.  Emani Summers led Cape Central with 18 points and  Allie Cairns and Grace Morris had  10 each for the Lady Tigers. Dexter will  be back in action Monday night as Poplar Bluff comes to town for Senior Night.
