CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — The Dexter Bearcats boys track & field team took home their first district title in program history on Saturday when they edged host Notre Dame by a point in the Class 3 District 1 Meet.

The Bearcats finished with 114 points while the Bulldogs finished second with 113. On the girls side, Dexter finished second with 106.5 points while Ste. Genevieve took home the title with 175.5.

Dexter took home seven district titles, with six coming for the Bearcats and one for the Lady Bearcats.

Andrew Saylors won the javelin while R.J. Farmer won the boys 300-meter hurdles and Chris Stone took first in the 800. Dexter won three relay titles with the Bearcats coming out on top in the 4x800 (Anistin Kyle, Chris Stone, Chase Farmer and Cameron Bell), 4x200 (Maliki Hinson-Flores, Juan Cuevas, Farmer and Lee-Michael McDonald) and 4x400 (Kyle, Stone, Farmer and Bell).

Abbie Lloyd took home the district crown in the girls pole vault.

The boys and girls side for the Bearcats will have several sectional qualifiers when the team hits the track on Saturday at Hillsboro High School.

Sectional qualifiers on the boys side include Saylors (javelin), Stone (800), Kyle (800), Farmer (300 hurdles), Hinson-Flores (200), King (1600) and Ben Dowdy (3200).

Boys relay qualifiers were 4x100 (Hinson-Flores, Bryant, McDonald and Cuevas), 4x200 (Hinson-Flores, Farmer, McDonald and Cuevas), 4x400 (Farmer, Bell, Stone and Kyle) and 4x800 (Bell, Farmer, Stone and Kyle).

On the girls side, Alison Turnbo (100 and 300 hurdles), Kali Hale (1600), Meredith Nea (400), Karis Kennedy (long jump and triple jump), Nina Stromas (300 hurdles), Abbie Lloyd (3200 and pole vault) and Marie Fees (high jump).

Girls relay teams include 4x100 (Nia Stromas, Claire Essner, Kennedy and Turnbo), 4x200 (Stromas, Essner, Nea and Kennedy Krapf) and 4x400 (Kennedy, Eisner, Krapf, and Turnbo).
