Chaffee suffers 38-6 loss at Hayti

Chaffee football coach Charlie Vickery has seen a troublesome trend in his team's play this season.

"Our problem all year has been giving up the big play," Vickery said.

That was once again the problem for the Red Devils in their 38-6 loss at Hayti on Friday night in Class 1 District 1 action.

According to Vickery, Chaffee gave up runs of 35, 36 and 56 yards and two 28-yard pass plays.

The Red Devils headed into the locker room at halftime trailing 30-0.

"The second half we played much better than we did the first half," Vickery said. "We were a little tentative."

Chaffee quarterback Jordan Yahn connected with Andrew Terhune on a 15-yard pass in the fourth quarter for its only score. The Red Devils' two-point conversion attempt failed.

Yahn completed four of his 15 passes in the game for 43 yards with one interception.

Daniel Lawson led Chaffee in rushing with 38 yards on 10 carries. As a team the Red Devils ran the ball 31 times for 88 yards.

Hayti rushed 31 times for 239 yards.

Chaffee dropped to 0-2 in district play and 1-7 overall. The team will wrap up its season at Portageville on Thursday.
