CHAFFEE -- Chaffee's American Legion baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings and pushed across the winning run with a squeeze bunt for a 5-4, 10-inning victory Tuesday night over visiting Ballard County (Ky.)
Chaffee improved to 3-0 with the win.
Ballard County took a 4-1 lead into the seventh, but Chaffee tied the score on a Chance White RBI double and a two-out, two-run single by Jason Harrell.
In the 10th, winning pitcher Matt Welch singled, was sacrificed to second and balked to third. Tommy Burnett then ended the game with a squeeze bunt.
Welch pitched one inning of hitless relief. Justin Braun pitched the first nine innings.
Chaffee returns to action Thursday when Sikeston visits for a 6 p.m. doubleheader.
Chaffee Jr. Legion romps
CHAFFEE -- Chaffee's Jr. Legion improved to 5-0 by pounding visiting Ballard County (Ky.) 14-0 in five innings Tuesday night.
Winning pitcher Tommy Stidham and John Wipfler combined on a one-hitter. Stidham struck out eight in three innings while Wipfler fanned three in two innings.
Stidham had three of Chaffee's 10 hits.
Chaffee will host Poplar Bluff today in a 6 p.m. doubleheader.
