CHAFFEE -- Chaffee Legion swept a district doubleheader Saturday against Van Buren, winning the opener 6-1 and the nightcap 7-2
The victories improved Chaffee's overall record to 16-6 and its district mark to 8-2.
Justin Braun pitched a complete game in the opener, allowing just four hits.
Kenny Gaebler and Tim Lowery each had two of Chaffee's nine hits. Jeremy Enderle and Jason Harrell both finished with two RBIs.
Chaffee scored four runs in the first and added two in the second for a comfortable 6-0 lead.
Matt Welch pocketed the win in the nightcap, allowing just two hits in five inning before giving way to Gaebler.
Enderle had a hit and a RBI for Chaffee, which mustered just five hits on the game.
Van Buren scored a run in the top of the first, but Chaffee countered with three in the first, one in the second and two in the third for a 6-1 advantage.
SEMO Bank Junior Legion
POPLAR BLUFF -- SEMO Bank Cape Junior Legion played through rainy conditions in the nightcap, but emerged with a district doubleheader sweep of Poplar Bluff.
After rallying for a 6-3 win in the opener, SEMO Bank (7-17, 8-2 district) waited out a half-hour rain delay in the second game, emerging with a 14-3, six-inning victory.
Winning pitcher Justin Cook went the distance in the opener, giving up seven hits, striking out four and walking nobody.
Mark Fisher and Ty Fidler both had two hits in SEMO Bank's 11-hit attack.
Trailing 2-0, SEMO Bank tied the score with a two-run sixth. Poplar Bluff nudged ahead with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Cape pushed across four runs in the seventh for the win.
Matt Bollinger picked up the victory in the second game, allowing seven hits, walking four and striking out three.
Fisher had three doubles and five RBIs to pace a 13-hit attack. Griffin Reutzel, Fidler, Rick Davis, Cook and Steve Sachse all had two hits.
SEMO Bank led throughout and broke open a 6-3 game in a five-run fifth.
Commerce Bank White Sox
The Commerce Bank White Sox mustered just nine hits in a doubleheader against the Benton, Ky., Sluggers, but managed to sweep their guests by scores of 5-2 and 3-1.
The White Sox improved to 12-8 on the season.
Joey McCullough notched the win in the opener. He struck out six, walked three and allowed seven hits in seven innings.
Greg Craft led the five-hit offense with two hits and two RBIs.
Travis Klipfel allowed just five hits in the second game to record the win. He struck out five and walked two in going the distance.
Paul Dobbins accounted for two of the White Sox's four hits.
