CHAFFEE -- Chaffee High's softball squad had quite a day Saturday as the Lady Red Devils remained undefeated and won the championship of their own eight-team tournament.

The Lady Red Devils, who are now 10-0, rolled past previously undefeated New Madrid County Central 14-3 in five innings in the semifinals, then crushed Oran 15-0 in three innings in the title contest.

"It was a tremendous day for us," said Chaffee coach Mark Devenport. "We run-ruled two very good teams. We're playing real good softball right now. I'm very proud of the kids."

Chaffee banged out 11 hits in the championship game. Casey Graviett, Jill Little, Morgan Kiefer and Amy Burnett all had two hits, with Graviett driving in five runs and Little and Burnett adding two RBIs apiece.

Against New Madrid in the semifinals, Pepple allowed four hits and one earned run while fanning seven and walking four.

New Madrid finished third by beating Dexter, East Prairie took fifth with a win over Advance and Delta placed seventh by downing Scott City. No scores on those games were available.
