ST. PETERS -- Cape Central's Jason Owen will make a bid for at least one state championship today when the Missouri State Swimming and Diving Meet moves into the finals.

During Friday's preliminaries, Owen earned the second seed for today's finals in both the 200 freestyle (1:44.96) and 500 freestyle (4:41.80). Both were career-best times for Owen.

"Jason should have an exciting race in both events," said Central coach Dayna Powell. "His time was really close to the leader in both events, so he has a good chance to do really well."

The only other Central swimmer to make today's finals was Eric Yount, who will be seeded seventh in the 50 freestyle (22.49).

"We had some other good swims, but not quite good enough to make the finals," Powell said.

Central diver Nick Sterrett will compete in his specialty this morning.
