JACKSON -- With its Nos. 1 and 2 players both winning 8-0, Cape Girardeau Central High's girls tennis team rolled past host Jackson Tuesday.

Central's Eliane Hess and Liz Russell each shut out their opponents as the Lady Tigers improved to 4-0 in dual meets.

"Jackson's a little down this year," said Central coach Annette Slattery. "I thought our girls played well."

Central's JV team won 11-1.

Softball

Jackson 10, Poplar Bluff 1

Jackson scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Lady Indians banged out 17 hits.

Ahead 3-1 after three innings, Jackson (12-3) scored four runs in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Emily Sander and Amanda Bollinger each had three hits while Gretchen King, Lindsey Meyr, Jessica Shultz and Megan Kuntze had two hits apiece. Bollinger and Kuntze each had two RBIs.

King picked up the victory on the mound, allowing two hits and striking out seven.

Notre Dame 14, Goreville (Ill.) 1

GOREVILLE, Ill. -- Behind seven runs in the first inning and six in the sixth, Notre Dame routed Goreville Tuesday.

Notre Dame (7-6) had 16 hits. Traci Kluesner went 4-for-5, Suzanne Schwartz 4-for-4, Randi Senciboy 3-for-4, Jill Huber 3-for-3, Holly Schnurbusch 2-for-3 and Mika Williamson 2-for-4.

Huber got the win. In six innings, she allowed one hit and struck out five.

Hillsboro 12, St. Vincent 1

PERRYVILLE -- St. Vincent's Monica Weith went 2-for-3 and stole two bases and Amanda Richardet was 1-for-2 with an RBI and seven putouts in the Squaws' loss to Hillsboro Tuesday.

St. Vincent fell to 0-7 as Stephanie Brown suffered the loss. Hillsboro totaled seven hits; the Squaws had five.

Cape Central 13, Perryville 0

PERRYVILLE -- Kathy Michel pitched five shutout innings and Erica McDonald knocked in four runs as Central won its seventh straight game.

McDonald was one of three Tigers with two hits in the 12-hit attack. Courtney Haman and Crissy Matthews chipped in with a pair of hits, and Ashlie Voerg and Amber Voerg each had triples as the Tigers improved to 9-3.

"The bats have come around for us," Central coach Don Lang said.

Central's junior varsity team remained undefeated (11-0) with a 19-13 win over Perryville.

Boys soccer

Cape Central 4, Sikeston 0

Cape Central improved to 3-6 with its victory over Sikeston Tuesday.

Central led 2-0 at the half on goals from Chris Cole and Justin Shelby. Brett McNabb had an assist.

In the second half, Cody Hill scored on a pass from Jon Mark Thompson. Keith Benton added a score.

Michael Pickett and Matt Brandt combined for the shutout.

Central's JV team overwhelmed Sikeston 8-1. Central's goals were from Luke Oliver (two), Matt Kennard, Paul Miller, Clint Hoffman, Matt Davis, Eric Daume and Craig Bartostk. Central moved to 2-1.

Notre Dame 1, Poplar Bluff 0

Zach Miller scored on a free kick nine minutes into the second half as Notre Dame defeated visiting Poplar Bluff Tuesday.

The Bulldogs moved to 5-1. Goalie Colin Vandergraaf got the shutout.

Notre Dame's JV team tied Poplar Bluff 1-1. Timmy Wencewicz scored Notre Dame's goal.

Volleyball

Herculaneum 15-15, St. Vincent 9-11

PERRYVILLE -- St. Vincent's Jessica Lakenan had 10 kills and Valerie Klaus totaled 12 assists as the Squaws lost to Herculaneum Tuesday in their first conference game.

St. Vincent fell to 4-5-2 but coach Stacie Bauwens said Sara Cissell and Stephanie Schremp played well in the back row.

St. Vincent's JV team won 15-12, 15-11.

Bell City 15-15, Poplar Bluff 4-10

BELL CITY -- Bell City picked up a big win Tuesday against visiting Poplar Bluff. The Lady Cubs improved to 7-4.

Courtney Brockmeyer had eight kills and seven digs and Tara Phillips added nine assists.

Zalma 16-15, Oak Ridge 14-10

OAK RIDGE -- Oak Ridge's Allison Miles had five service aces and Jan McLane had four kills in the Lady Eagles' loss to Zalma Tuesday.

Perryville 11-15-15, St. Pius 15-11-12

FESTUS -- Perryville won its first Jefferson County Conference game this season over St. Pius Tuesday.

Perryville moved to 4-4-1. Nicole Blechle had 16 assists, five digs and nine kills, Natalie Bohnert nine kills, Jennifer Triller seven kills and three blocks and Jeni Blevins nine digs.

Perryville's JV team won 9-15, 15-11, 15-4.

Chaffee 13-16-18, Oran 15-14-16

ORAN -- Chaffee outlasted Oran in a tight three-game match.

Jill Little led Chaffee (2-4) with eight kills. Teammate Emily Siebert notched three aces.

Oran won the JV contest 15-6, 15-6.

Cape Central 25, Jackson 0

Cape Central's JV evened its record at 1-1 with a shutout of Jackson Monday.

Jeff Dunaway scored on a 2-yard run; Jamal Austin ran 25 yards for a touchdown; and Josh Whirl concluded the scoring on an 80-yard romp.
