ST. LOUIS -- Cardinals right-hander Kyle Lohse was placed on the 15-day disabled list for the first time in his career Friday with a forearm injury after he had to leave his latest start early.

The Cardinals are going with 12 pitchers for the time being, with infielder Tyler Greene recalled from Class AAA Memphis.

Lohse, 4-4 with a 3.99 ERA, was hit by a pitch last month and skipped a turn to let the swelling go down. He aggravated the injury Wednesday night on a diving stop of Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto's bunt single to open the third inning.

Lohse said he aggravated the injury making an awkward throw to first rather than the dive.

"I threw sideways laying on my stomach, pretty much as hard as I could," Lohse said.
