Cape Legion reaches semis

The Cape Girardeau Post 63 Ford & Sons American Legion baseball team has advanced to the semifinals of the Charleston wood bat tournament.

Cape, 5-1 overall, improved to 2-1 in tournament pool play with Saturday's 12-2, six-inning rout of Fulton.

Jamie Pickel (2-0) pitched a complete-game six-hitter. He struck out four and walked two.

Ford & Sons had 11 hits and did not commit an error. Ryan Grigaitis went 3-for-3 with a triple and six RBIs. Dustin Crowden and Brady James each had two hits, including a double.

In today's semifinals, Cape plays Dunklin County at 10 a.m. and host Charleston faces Mayfield, Ky., at 12:30 p.m. The winners meet at 3 p.m. for the title.
