It was a night of missed opportunities for Cape Senior American Legion Wednesday at Capaha Field in a 13-3 loss to Paducah, Ky.
Cape (12-19) stranded nine baserunners, five in the first three innings, and also lost four runners on the bases.
Wayne Essner allowed only four hits in giving up eight runs. But he walked six and hit three batters and Ford & Sons committed five errors.
Cape pulled within 8-3 in the seventh with base hits by Sean Bard, Tony Leuckel and Jason Umfleet.
Cape played without first baseman Patrick Slattery who injured his left knee in a canceled game against Jackson on Tuesday. Slattery will undergo tests on Monday to determine the extent of his injury.
Cape Legion junior wins
The Cape Girardeau American Legion junior team beat Paducah American Legion junior team 4-3 Wednesday night in Cape by scoring a run on consecutive two-out errors in the last inning.
David Jackson picked up the win on the mound for Cape.
Capahas defeat Tradewater
The Capahas tuned up the NBC Mid-South Regional by pounding defending champion Tradewater, Ky., 10-1 in Kentucky.
Eric Horstman had three hits and scored three runs, while Bryan Kurt added three hits and drove in five runs. Levi Olson also was 3-for-5, Lance Seasor was 2-for-4, and Seth Hudson was 2-for-3.
The Capahas used five pitchers.
