JACKSON, Mo. -- Cape Central's cross country team made a clean sweep of the SEMO Conference meet Thursday, winning all of the varsity, junior varsity and junior high races. JACKSON, Mo. -- Cape Central's cross country team made a clean sweep of the SEMO Conference meet Thursday, winning all of the varsity, junior varsity and junior high races.

The closest race was the varsity girls, where the Lady Tigers edged the Lady Indians 28-30. Notre Dame took third with 89 points, followed by Kelly at 112. Neither Sikeston nor Poplar Bluff had complete teams.

As expected, Kim Pancoast won the race in convincing fashion. The Central standout finished the race in 20:12, 42 seconds faster than Jackson's Krista Mouser.

Jackson and Cape Central took nine of the 10 all-conference spots in the girls varsity race.

Cape Central's Mark Stone took first place in the boys varsity race in 16:53, just three seconds faster than his teammate Gabe Austin. Justin Hawkins of Central took third in 17:04.

Cape Central cruised to the conference title with 25 points. Poplar Bluff took second with 63; Kelly took third with 64, Jackson had 77 and Notre Dame took fifth with 146. Sikeston failed to assemble a complete squad.

VOLLEYBALL

Advance 15-15

Scott City 4-8

SCOTT CITY -- Dana Williams had 11 kills and nine blocks to lead the Lady Hornets past the Lady Rams in two sets.

Also for Advance (19-7-2), Amber Bond provided 16 assists, Emily Johnson posted two service aces and Nicole Trops hustled for three digs.

Oran 15-15

Cape Central 10-3

ORAN, Mo. Oran won handily over Cape Central to improve to 10-11.

The Lady Tigers fell to 2-16.

Maria Eftink led the Lady Eagles with eight kills and two blocks. Tara Griffin, a JV player recently promoted to the varsity, served for eight points and Stacey Eftink had 14 assists.

Oran's JV (15-7-1) won 15-9 and 15-6.

JACKSON, Mo. -- Andrea Koeper and Jenna Leet had big games for the Lady Indians as they downed the Lady Pirates.

Koeper had six kills, six blocks and three service aces while Leet had five kills, five blocks and six aces.

Jackson improved to 18-8-2 while Perryville fell to 8-15.

Andrea Buerck had six points and six assists for Perryville while Emily Amberger chipped in with four points, two kills and three digs. Natalie Bohnert had four kills.

Jackson's JV squad won its match 13-15, 15-7 and 15-12.

Perryville's freshmen won 15-12 and 12-9.

Clearwater 15-15

Woodland 13-12

PIEDMONT, Mo. -- Woodland got 12 service points and three aces from Danielle Farrell but it wasn't enough as the Lady Cardinals fell in two sets.

Amanda Jordan provided Woodland (9-12-3) with seven assists and five digs. Jenni Jackson had three kills and nine digs and Emily Davis had three kills and eight digs.

Woodland's junior varsity fell 15-13, 15-5.

Meadow Heights Varsity Tournament

MEADOW HEIGHTS, Mo. -- Leopold advanced out of the opening round of the Meadow Heights tournament Thursday with a three-set win over Zalma and a two-set win over Oak Ridge.

Leopold, the winner of its pool, defeated Zalma 3-15, 15-10 and 15-11 and Oak Ridge 15-9 and 15-6.

The Lady Wildcats were led by Holly Jansen with 20 kills and Jessica Bollinger with 14.

Zalma defeated Oak Ridge 15-12 and 15-4 to advance to the consolation game against the second-place team in Friday's pool.

The tournament will resume tonight with the championship match to be held Saturday.

FOOTBALL

Cape Central Jr. High

Cape Central's eighth- and ninth-grade teams lost to Sikeston in games played at Houck Stadium.

Sikeston won the eighth-grade game 12-0 and the ninth-grade contest 38-6. Colin Schermann scored the lone touchdown for Central in the latter game.
