Capahas baseball team settles for road split

The Plaza Tire Capahas split a doubleheader at the Springfield, Ill., Pallys on Sunday.

Dustin Hunter pitched the Capahas to victory in the first game, a 10-0 decision in six innings.

Hunter struck out seven and allowed two hits.

Sean Bard provided more than enough offense. He hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning and finished with four RBIs.

Brandon Bennett went 2 for 2 with an RBI, while Logan Bartels drove in two runs.

Jordan Kimball and Jason Blum both went 2 for 4, while Clayton Gibbons went 2 for 3 with a double. Kyle Marshall also doubled in the win.

The Capahas jumped ahead with four in the first inning then extended their lead to 7-0 with three runs in the third inning. The first game was scheduled for seven innings but ended after six because of the 10-run mercy rule.

The Capahas (22-5) lost the second game 5-3.

Tanner Hiett started for the Capahas and went the first four innings, but he left the game after being hit by a line drive. Capahas manager Jess Bolen said Hiett was not hurt seriously but did not feel well enough to continue.

Hiett struck out one and walked two.

Bartels suffered the loss in relief. He allowed two runs, both unearned, over two innings. He struck out two and walked two.

Bard drove in a run for the Capahas.

Blum, Marshall and Gibbons all had a hit to account for the Capahas' four hits in the second game.

Springfield scored five runs on 10 hits.

Both teams committed two errors.

The Capahas return to action Tuesday when they travel to St. Louis to face the Bulls.
