SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- After losing four games, Southeast Missouri State University's softball team finally picked up its first wins in the Capital Classic here by beating Sacramento State 2-1 and Portland State 9-1 Saturday.

Southeast (5-9) pushed across a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to prevail against Sacramento State.

Christine Engelhardt was the winning pitcher with 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief. Starter Debbie Schmelz allowed two hits and a run in 6 2/3 innings.

Renee Enos had three of the Otahkians' six hits. She and Kelsey White drove in the runs.

Against Portland State, Enos homered and had two of the Otahkians' 11 hits. Jenny Oermann and Anne Trieb also added two hits apiece. Courtney Eklund drove in three runs and Enos had two RBIs.

Engelhardt scattered eight hits in the game that was stopped after five innings by the run rule.

The Otahkians will be back in action today against an opponent that was being determined late Saturday.
