With one out and runners on first and second, Arkansas freshman designated hitter Chad Spanberger, the brother of Southeast Missouri State pitcher Cody Spanberger, singled to right field to propel the Razorbacks to a 4-3 walk-off win against the Redhawks at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Tuesday.
Southeast took an early 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI single by right fielder Dalton Hewitt in the top of the first, but Spanberger tied it with an RBI double in the Razorbacks' half of the inning.
The Redhawks didn't record a hit the next three innings. Freshman left fielder Trevor Ezell led off the sixth with a single and scored on a single by designated hitter Garrett Gandolfo.
Southeast's Jason Blum, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored on a two-out single by Andy Lennington to go up 3-1.
Arkansas answered in the bottom of the seventh. Southeast freshman reliever Wesley Pyles walked the first two batters he faced and they advanced to second and third on a wild pitch before Brady Wright replaced him on the mound.
Arkansas' Andrew Benintendi doubled home both runners to tie it at 3.
Lennington singled to lead off the ninth and Branden Boggetto drew a walk before Scott Mitchell bunted them to second and third.
Lennington was picked off at third and pinch hitter Ryan Barnes struck out to end the threat.
Wright, who dropped to 0-2 with the loss, gave up a one-out base hit before Matthew Wade entered to pitch. He walked Benintendi before Spanberger's walk-off hit.
Southeast starting pitcher Garret Stockton allowed just one earned run on five hits in six innings of work. He had five strikeouts and walked three batters in his no decision.
Arkansas' Jackob Stone (1-2) was credited with the win. He did not allow a hit or run in one inning of relief and struck out one batter.
The Razorbacks snapped a six-game losing streak and improved to 10-8 with the win. Southeast dropped to 9-9.
The two teams are slated to play at 3:05 p.m. today at Baum Stadium.
