Cape all-stars win state opener

The Cape Girardeau All-Stars 12-year-old Cal Ripken team brought home a 9-5 victory over Sikeston in its opening game Thursday at the state tournament in Kennett, Mo.

Ethan Dambach pitched all six innings for the win, and Jesse Hency went 3-for-3 with five RBIs.

Cape will be back in action at noon today against a to-be-determined opponent.

Cape Babe Ruth splits at Charleston

The Cape Girardeau Senior Babe Ruth team split a doubleheader at Charleston.

Anthony Wulfers threw a four-hitter in the opener for a 2-1 Cape win. Abe Dirnberger led Cape with three hits.

Charleston scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take game two 8-7. Brett Heischmidt took the loss. Scott Dunaway led Cape with three hits.
