The Cape Girardeau American Legion Ford and Sons baseball team blasted 15 hits in its season-opening game, a 17-1 victory over De Soto on Monday.

Ford and Sons pitcher Mark Himmelberg pitched four innings for the win, allowing two hits and striking out three. Himmelberg also went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI. Kory Kitchen threw three innings of hitless relief, striking out one.

Ford and Sons second baseman Brad LaBruyere led the team with four RBIs while left fielder Joe Uhls and shortstop Blake Slattery drove in three each. Slattery had three hits while Matt Hester, Alex Schell and Zach Plott each had two hits.

The second game was canceled due to rain.

Ford & Sons returns to action Friday when it begins play in a tournament in Dyersburg, Tenn.

Gateway PGA JuniorSeries begins play

Tanner McKinney and Jack Connell each shot 75 to win titles Tuesday at Cape Girardeau Country Club in the opening event of the Gateway PGA Junior Series.

McKinney posted a four-stroke victory in the Boys 14-15 Tour division over Eric Hayes (79).

Connell clipped Alex Reid (76) by a stroke in the Boys 16-19 Tour division. Corey Brueckner (78) placed third.

Other division winners were Jesse Hency (84, Boys 12-13, 18 regular), Evan Deere (81, Boys 14-15, 18 regular), Justin Fields (82, Boys 16-19, 18 regular), Gabe Wheeler (65, Boys 10-11, nine holes), Collin Sprandel (45, Boys 12-13, nine holes), Tanner Deiro (52, Boys 14-18, nine holes) and Emily Matthews (82, Girls 16-19, 18 regular).

Lance Lafont fired a hole in one Monday at Dalhousie Golf Club.

Lafont used a 5-iron to hole out on No. 8, which was playing 190 yards. Pat Lafont witnessed the shot.

Seabaughs, Chilton, Squires combine for win

The team of Ron and Phyllis Seabaugh, Gary Squires and Joan Chilton shot a 63 to win the four-person Memorial Day Scramble at Dalhousie Golf Club.

Mark and Katie Boie and John and Paige Morlan won the A-flight with a 69. The team of Rob and Joanne Erlbacher and Don and Charlotte Edwards claimed B-flight with a 68.

Closest to the hole winners were Bill Morgan (No. 5), David Kaelin (No. 8), Ron Seabaugh (No. 11) and Jim Cochrane (No. 13). The low-putt total of 20 was posted by Jim and Beverly Rust and Jerry and Nancy Stone.

Noffel, Bennett claimfour-ball tourney

Ed Noffel and Mike Bennett posted a 64 to win a two-man four-ball tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club. Mark Unger and Bryan Johnson placed second, while the teams of Rob Erlbacher and Jerry Stone and Danny Lape and Steve Matthews tied at 67.
