Southeast softball honored

for academic excellence

For the sixth straight year, Southeast Missouri State University's softball team has been recognized for its academic prowess.

The squad had the 17th-best grade-point-average in the nation during the 2003-2004 school year, 3.310, as announced by The National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Southeast has made the NFCA academic list every year since 1999, including a high of No. 2 in 2002 and a No. 3 ranking last year.

"Our team ranking dropped from last season, but our 3.3 GPA is still very outstanding," Southeast coach Lana Richmond said. "Our program still consistently reflects strong academic commitment."

Central junior high girls

sweep Egyptian

Central swept two junior high girls basketball games Tuesday night at Egyptian High School. Central's A Team (4-3) won 57-17 behind 15 points from Mallory Rhodes and 13 points from Sarah Uptmor. Central's B Team won its first game with a 16-12 victory. Megan Brandt scored six points.
