Braves sweep twinbill in fall baseball league

The Braves hammered the A's on Oct. 8 in a doubleheader to remain in the chase for first place in the SEMO Fall Baseball League.

The Braves won 25-9 and 7-0 to improve to 6-2 in league play. The previously unbeaten A's fell to 4-2. The Yankees, who had a bye last weekend, led the league at 5-1 heading into this weekend's action at Jackson City Park.

In the opener, the Braves scored 16 runs in the seventh inning to break open a tie game. Bryce Faulkner picked up the win.

Matt Whitehead was the winner in the shutout win that followed. Alex Chasteen, Caleb Daughhetee and Faulkner all had three hits on the day for the Braves.

In the other doubleheader last weekend, the Red Sox and Cardinals split a pair of close games.

The Red Sox won 7-6 in nine innings before the Cardinals won 7-5. Both teams were 3-5.

Blake Burton drove in the winning run for the Sox in the opener, making a winner of Austin Neal, who pitched the final four innings. Jacob Valleroy had three hits for the Sox; Lance Young had three hits for the Cardinals.

Young was the winner in the second game, striking out 13 over six innings. Frank Soltys picked up the save.
