Gators sweep two swimming meets
The Gator Swim Team swept Southeast Missouri Swimming Confence meets June 4 at Perryville and June 11 at Jackson.
The Gators scored 1,008 points to win at Perryville. The Perryville Piranhas were third with 398 points. Jackson Swim Team was fourth with 384 points.
At the Jackson meet, the Gators scored 1,004.5 points to top runner-up Jackson's 345 points.
Five conference records were set at the Jackson meet, including two by the Gators and two by Jackson's Ryan Gibson.
In the 13- and 14-year-old girls division, the Gators 200-meter medley relay team of Mary Catherine Ford, Jessica Baker, Sydney Stein and Anne Wolpers set a conference record with a time of 2 minutes, 26.24 seconds. They topped a mark set by a Gators foursome in 2003.
Hannah Kinder of the Gators set a conference mark of 29.19 in the 50 freestyle for 15- to 18-year-old girls.
Gibson set the 50-meter backstroke mark for 11- and 12-year-old boys by finishing in 34.87. He also set the 50 butterfly record at 34.00.
The next conference meet is June 18 at Farmington.
The team of Dan Elkins, Tom Siebert, Janszen Ringo and Larry McKinney won the championship flight in the Montgomery Bank Charity Golf Scramble on June 3 at Bent Creek Golf Course in Jackson.
The event raised funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and for Jim Trickey.
The team of Kyle Thompson, Brock Alspaugh, Bill Odom and Mike Bennett won the A flight.

Clara Schaefer won the play of the day for the Cape J.C. Chip-A-Ways on Tuesday at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. The play of the day was most 5s.
Several players tied for medalist honors.
Liz Grimes won the B class, and Bonnie Miller had the low putts.
Mike Shaffar recorded a hole in one June 9 while on a trip to Arizona.
Shaffer aced the 190-yard, par-3 13th hole on the Raptor course at Grayhawk in Scottsdale, Ariz. He used a 9-wood. Witnesses were Jim Lawrence, Doug Johnson and Liz Johnson.
The hole in one was the fifth for Shaffar, who regularly plays at Bent Creek in Jackson, where he also has recorded a hole in one in his career.
Harry Ivester recorded a hole in one June 5 on the No. 8 hole at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course in Cape Girardeau.
He used a 5-wood to ace the 183-yard, par-3 hole.
Witnesses were Bob Hawn, Jim Wink and Bev Wink.
