Southeast Missouri State goalie nets OVC honor
Southeast Missouri State junior goalkeeper Lindsay Pickering was named the Ohio Valley Conference defensive player of the week for soccer on Tuesday.
Pickering allowed just one goal in two matches over the past week. She stopped nine shots in Friday's 1-0 loss to St. Louis University, then made three saves to earn the shutout in Monday's 3-0 win over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
Pickering has allowed one goal in three matches this season for the 2-1 Redhawks, who play at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday night.
The team of Dave and Barb Kaesheimer and Bill and Janet White won the championship flight of the Friday Night Couples Scramble at Cape Girardeau Country Club.
Dave Kaesheimer is the general manager of the club.
In second place was the team of Dr. H.D. and Linda Tewis and Richard and Joyce Kuntze. Ron and Priscilla Kirby teamed with Leon and Mary Jane Eftink for a third-place finish.
In the A flight, Tom and Martha Hamilton teamed with Jerry and Claudia VanOostrom for a first-place finish. Richard and Shirly Moore and John and Judy Holcomb placed second. In third place was the team of Mike and Jeanie Wilson and Al and Pam Spradling.
Randy Senciboy and Charlie Urhahn teamed up for a first-place finish in the Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association event Sunday at the Knights of Columbus in Leopold, Mo.
The team of Glenn Backfish and Dylan Elfrink placed second with Rick Garland and Ira Vandeven in third place.
In Saturday's competition at Neighbor Day in Benton, Mo., the team of Doris Stubenrauch and Brent Prindle placed first, while Dennis McMillan and Carl Breedlove finished second. Lachelle Cook and Dale Tenkhoff teamed up for a third-place finish.
