Worley Jr. and Cary score Fall Classic wins at ATPR

BENTON, Mo. -- Tommy Worley Jr. of Bismarck, Mo., passed Indiana's Kraig Kinser for good on the 28th lap, then led Kinser from there to win the $5,000 top prize late Friday in the Motorsports Fall Classic sprint event at Auto Tire and Parts Racepark.

Daron Clayton of Sikeston started on the pole and dominated the first six laps of the feature event before making contact with a lapped car, breaking a wheel in the process.

Worley took the lead and traded it twice with Kinser, the final time on lap 28. Kinser finished second with Mike Ward third. Jerrod Hull was fourth with Lowe Cannell fifth.

Craig Carey of Springfield, Ill., scored his first MARA midget victory of the year, beating another Springfield resident -- Chad Branson -- to the line. Branson led all 25 laps of the final MARA feature event on the year.

Preliminary action in the US Outlaw Mini Sprint National Championship found 16-year-old Brad Sweet of Grass Valley, Calif., leading all but one lap of the 25-lap adventure. Jeff Harden of Glenn Bedalin, Wis., finished second and led one lap of the event.

Events continued late Saturday night.

Southeast, Drake play to scoreless tie

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Southeast Missouri State University's women's soccer team played to a scoreless tie Saturday.

Shots were even at 14 apiece with Southeast (6-2-1) edging Drake (4-3-2) in shots on goal with 10-9. Southeast goalkeepers Amanda Wzros and Lauren Fabro again split duties to shut out the Bulldogs. Fabro had five saves while Wzros had three.

Southeast's offensive attack was led by Lisa Schweppe with five shots, three on goal. The Otahks had a shot on goal each from Erica Todd, Jen Cross, Laura Hauskins, and Ashley DeRoy. Megan Hejlek added a shot.

Otahkians' volleyball defeats Murray St.

MURRAY, Ky. -- The Southeast volleyball team jumped out to a two-game lead and held on to defeat Murray state in five games Saturday.

The Otahkians evened their OVC record at 2-2, winning by scores of 30-27, 30-27, 25-30, 21-30, 15-9.

Bobbi Carlile led Southeast (7-9) with 24 kills while Sarah Frost and Emily Johnson had 14 apiece. Suzanne Gundlach led the defensive effort with 20 digs and Johnson and Emily Scannell had 15 and 14, respectively. Scannell also dished out 54 assists.

Paige Sun recorded a match-high 37 kills and had 16 digs for Murray State (2-9, 1-4).

Scorpions defeat Royals, stay unbeaten in league

The Kohlfeld Scorpions defeated the St. Louis Royals 45-29 last Saturday, keping the Scorpions unbeaten in their rugby league. It was their first win against the Royals in seven years.

T.J. Ebner had three tries and a conversion kick for the Scorpions. Alan Kloss, John Creutz, Marc Harris and Kevin Tucker each had a try. Andy Entwistle had four conversion kicks.

The Scorpions are a win away from qualifying for the league title game on Oct. 26. They play Oct. 5 in St. Louis against the Ramblers.
