Van Devan wins mountain bike title

James Van Devan, riding for the Cyclewerx team, won the marathon class at the Missouri State Mountain Bike Championships at Castlewood State Park.

The Cyclewerx team also posted wins at the Tour de Grove road race in St. Louis.

Gordon Glaus and Josh Johnson both earned stage wins Saturday, while Tim Brummit took sixth.

Johnson posted another victory Sunday, while Brummit finished fourth.

Gators capture small club title

The Gators Swim Team took first place at the Ozark small club championships in St. Louis.

The Gators outscored the second-place team by more than 300 points.

Six Gators swimmers were the individual high-point winners in their division: Phoebe Law (girls 8 and younger), Gabby Vieira (girls 11 and 12), Austin Hobbs (boys 11 and 12), Kyleigh Troxel (girls 13 and 14), Kristian Troxel (boys 13 and 14) and Allison Hobbs (girls 15 and older).

The small club division is comprised of teams with 100 swimmers or fewer.

Law broke the 25-yard freestyle conference record (girls 8 and younger), finishing in 14.93 seconds at the Poplar Bluff meet. Caitlyn Palmer set the 100-yard freestyle conference record (girls 11 and 12), touching in 1:04.39 at the Perryville meet.

Kluesner, Cook team for win

The team of Jake Kluesner and Lachelle Cook took first place at the SEMO Horseshoe Association's tournament at the Oran Knights of Columbus.

The team of Mike Kluesner and Cori Stoverink was second, while Tom Kluesner and Carolyn Schreckenberg were third in the 17-team event.

The next tournament will be Saturday at the Scott City Knights of Columbus.

Central grad helps college team to title

David Berry, a Cape Girardeau Central graduate, aided the Westminster College men's tennis team in its run to the NCAA Division III tournament.

Berry, a sophomore, helped Westminster win the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title with an undefeated conference record.

Berry and teammate Kyle Tolbert lost their opening-round match 8-4 to Luther College at the national tournament.
